When I copied over the contents of the SOLAR folder from the Starsphere download over to the game SOLAR folder my game crashed upon logging into my character. I copied a back-up from before this back in and the game starts fine now though it is still a bit dark and increasing the gamma (at 50% now) just makes it look more odd.
I suppose I can learn to live like this but I don't think it's what the mod is supposed to be like haha, any idea on what could have happened, what folder might be messed up?
Thanks for the help.
Edit: I want to say that over the course of a few minutes the game corrected itself? It may be with how I copied over the swagpack files. I went to all individual folders and click-and-drag'ed all the files meaning I have the original files in a sub-folder plus the new ones from the swagpack. Do I have too many files now? Should I -only- have the files in the swagpack folder or those in the swagpack folder plus the ones the swagpack does not replace in each folder?
Hmmm..., that does seem like a bit of a rats nest you got there. Do you still have a backup of your Data folder as it existed before you added anything? If so, I would advise you to start fresh and go a different route. First, download the filles from the following links:
First thing to do is extract the contents of the archive. I usually just create a new folder on the desktop and transfer the files there. Next, find your Disco installation folder which is located in C:/Users/<your name>/appdata/local/DiscoveryFreelancer/Data. You will have to make sure that you have allowed hidden files and folders to be shown, or the appdata folder won't be visible.
For the HUD mod, open each ofthe folders you extracted untill you get to the INTERFACE folder. Drag and drop these into the location described above, overwriting when prompted.
The Starsphere is a bit different. It's packed as an flmod. You need to delete that extension and rename it with .zip at the end. You can then use 7zip (it's what I use) to extract the files to a new folder. The only file you want to use is the one named SOLAR. Just drag and drop this folder into the Data folder mentioned above, and overwrite when prompted.
Make sure you are placing these files in the main Data folder, not the subfolders. If I understood your post correctly, you had placed the SOLAR folder from the starshere mod INTO the SOLAR folder of your Disco installation. If so, that was incorrect. The starsphere SOLAR folder is meant to take the place of the original, that's why it needs to be overwritten.
That worked, thank you! I'm trying to see what the exact differences of the swagpack are since things like planetary rings and auras around suns look a lot better but planets (at least in Omicron Mu) look relatively the same. But seems like I achieved what I wanted, so thank you all for helping out!
