Using Common Sense, I think that it's obvious that Eppy's RP is not for the fact that he wants a random ship. You can tell by the amount of work someone puts into an RP their true purposes and intentions.
Rushed, hastily written RP - Probably just wants the ship
Carefully planned, logical RP - In it for the RP
Instead of bashing faction leaders, RP, and our admin, realize that he's not playing Simon Cowell like I am right now. People aren't going to be sanctioned for their RP quality... He's simply stating his opinion, voicing his concern in something he sees is going down the drain. Believe it or not, Admin are human, and they have opinions.
My advice, grow a brain, people, even if you already have one. Because if you don't get the point of this thread, the current one is doing you no good.

I have had quite a lot to say over the last few days about this. Its really making me think very hard about things. I pride myself on having RP loadouts for every ship I use. I recently switched my buckshots on my SA to vengeances and they really do suck. However this is beside the point.
There is an attitude which seem to say 'winning = good' on this server and I don't like it. I lose rather a lot and sometimes its tough, sometimes a losing fight is awesome. Like last night, I got on my zno and had a lot of fun with a few people (one who has already posted in this thread amoungst them) in new york. We roleplayed and laughed about it afterwards on skype. It was cool.
however quite a lot of people have got the idea that if you have the best you are the best. This simply isn't true. Two of the best factions out there (XA and LH) get their members to fly starblazer/hawk and a dagger respectively. I think this is awesome.
I think this community is very very good. However we need to sort a few things out. There are people telling me that they are leaving soon, very prominent members of this community. Hell I have considered it, and I'm a disco fanatic.
I don't care what weapon loadout we people use, I don't even care if their roleplay is crappy. I just want people to stop regarding their ship and weapons and the number of fights they win as some kind of "how awesome I am" scale.
I don't know if I can possibly say any more about this. If there is anyone who wants to debate with me about this whole thing then PM me and I'll give them my skype, frankly I'm sick of this now.
Hoodlum, sometimes you do things I agree with, sometimes you don't. Starting this thread is something I agree with.
I have tried to make my point clear, and still people only want to talk about what weapon loadout they use on their bloody ship, this discussion is far bigger than that. Please talk about what needs to be spoken about, rather than feeling attacked and getting defensive. The people who I am addressing this to know who they are.
' Wrote:I'm beginning to get a little saddened by all of this ... Roleplay used to be characterization, and not the
writing of stories to justify a choice of ship and loadout for PvP. So what happened ?
There are few compromises now, a lot less common sense, and attacks on those who's RP is a part of
Discovery's history.
We used to pride ourselves on sticking to the sometimes unwritten rules of conduct on the use of weapons
available where they shouldn't be, not using those we could almost justify with a little tinkering of reps and
affiliations. Now we seem have a race to grab the best out there, and then we have post after post trying to vindicate their mounting and use.
Post -your- excuses please ...

'That must to be fixed' - ops sorry, wrong topic...
Just a short thought/reflection, uniqueness of this server couses that its popularity becomes its own nightmare. . .and turns into a curse.
well id like to say that im am in possession of 1 BS,and i didnt buy it to be a "cool" and "strong" in pvp, for that i have my ravens talon VHF. I use BS just for a joy of RP, (and to feel how is to be in position of Jean luc Picard---joking for this).
I try to RP properly as much as my english aloves me too. I started to play this game for the first time and i started it to play on this server (i almost finished SP once but i had problems with save games), so it took me 6 months to buy a BS, its not like i didnt have the money, but i wated to explore Sirius, get familliar with the factions and their RP, and finaly settle in one.
So please dont judge me if you se me flying in that thing or asking some stupit (to someone) questions on forum.
' Wrote:Sorry for the hijack, Jes, but it's related. People are screaming for indie rights these days. Now, I ask you, what is the point of a faction? What is the point of organizing a force? To employ that organization to further its members goals, in the case of a gaming faction or clan, control, power, influence, etc., in their chosen virtual world. If anybody wants to tell us that our faction can't take a position of authority over the unfactionized players, then why were we allowed to form a faction in the first place? Now do we have double standards?
In other news, I agree completely. When I wrote my original Roleplay for the Fantasia and Perihelion I didn't give a damn about combat edge. I was horrible in anything, period. I wanted to create something unique within the limits of reason and explore the possible scenarios for y characters and their ships. In today's Discovery, if I came fresh off the boat and tried to make the Fantasia today people would accuse me of being attracted by the Bretonian Battleship's combat capabilities and I'd likely be sanctioned or TBFed off the server and forums. Why? Because peoplee are using loopholes to get the best toys. Now I ask you, WHAT is that?
I'm done.
Eppy..... wise... and SIGNED !!!!!!!!
Joe, beside LH and XA which are IMO the most RP factions in server i will add LR too, cause I flew Bloodhound for 15 hrs and Hyena another 15 hrs... in my LR training training days... and I enjoyed every hour f that 30 hours in them..
COMMON SENSEalready said, I know....but It's not THAT hard !
my zoner-like merc has furys 5 : class 9, neutral RP !
my trader has transport turrets... no comments need...
my Liberty Rogue has sammy : class 9, LR-specific weps RP !
Admins has done a great job by creating class 9 weps FOR ALL FACTION, and ships too !.. (comment : some ships can be handle by multiple factions, mounted weps are important at this case) Don't go away to find better (and OORP) !
I'm John Smith . My trader is full equiped and I have 30M to loose : Come and get me in Sigmas and Omicrons, I will give you that money to make you do RP !, with all info you could need !..
I can excuse newbies for buying CSV at Manhattan or taking weps from killed NPCs, BUT STOP OORPing WHEN YOU CAN DO SOMETHING ELSE ! I'm ready to kill my own RP to teach you anything you could need to know about that ! Make an effort ! This community can easily become GREAT if everybody do the strict minimum to maintain RP... Please !
edit : I personally don't find interest in codes. I tried with my merc, and sold them a little time later. They use lots of energy with low firerate and some of them are less effective than class 9 equivalent... Up to you !
And I don't think they belong to a faction, desert law : I found, it's mine.
PS : About RP, I made stories for all my character, after a few time to play with them... I made this because it made fun for me but if you don't think so, I won't mind, Just enjoy the community ! RPing his whole equipment (in the case it stays in RP) is for the ones who REALLY LOVE RPing things !
If you can't write a RP story, just let time pass and play with your RP character... You'll create your own one just by playing. I do prefer people who don't do anything than people obliged to do scum just to do something.
OK for gentle RP, OK for gentle PvP too. What do you prefer ?
Hurk hurk hurk...

So stories are bad? I have an OC Templar, had an HF Raven Claw, have an LWB Wrath, and each one is extremely justified. Hell, every weapon and the thruster, not to mention the ship, are all mentioned in Vic Chonody's story. Is this bad? Is it?? Let's not forget the Rusty Donut for the LPI, as well. Yes, RP is 'characterization', but seriously people, I saw an LH Guardian the other day, and if he didn't have a story, he would get sanctioned so fast his pants would catch fire.
Telling people off for writing stories to justify their guns and ships when it's just that that we're expecting is wrong. I can understand if, as was mentioned earlier, it was a hastily slapped together thing obviously to get the ship. I never intended to get that Templar, never intended for Wesley to join the LWB. It just happened, it was how it flowed.
I'm sorry if my little rant thingy didn't make sense. Oh, and I agree with Eppy, by the by.
Those of you who think this community is going down hill either don't know or don't remember where we came from. Some of the people who visit these forums have been doing it going on 3 years I believe. And they I believe would say this place has improved....immensely.
That being said, the server rules have been taken as far as they can be, perhaps a little too far even. Rules that regulate ships and weapons can only work properly in a game where all ships and weapons are balanced. Again, look where we came from. There was a time when a VHF could do nothing but spam mines and kill a battleship, not long ago the bomber was the ultimate fighter killing machine, now they are at least a little closer to the real thing...things are being done to make the mod easier to role play in and more diverse.
But we still have a long way to go. New ships are being added to this mod faster than we can balance them.
And weapons...the weapons here...
Look, uber weapons are bad for role play, its that simple. Give one faction a clear advantage over another and you have two outcomes: stealing said factions technology, or everyone joining that faction. Given the choice, and we have, we choose stealing. Know why? Because even though we are compromising our own stories to make our characters competitive in an imperfect game we still care about the overall story of Discovery. It will always be better to have as many factions operating as possible rather than 2 or 3 mega factions with uber weapons. So we go and make our characters in weaker factions and swallow our prides to include weird caveats and abominable distortions to make it possible to play that faction. We make it work, because otherwise that faction is unplayable.
Eliminate uberism in weapons. Whats important here is the character you play, not the gun you use.
