Let Devs test on the server

Give devs the ability to test on the server.

As noted from this, a dev got sanctioned for testing, which is stupid tbh.

Whitelist ONLY [Dev] tagged ships from the anticheat to test client-side and server-side features, such as weapon testing or effects test on the server.

This'll allow them to actively test in an online environment, instead of usually playing on singleplayer, also allowing them to test for issues and open up opportunities like:

Testing hitboxes.
Serverside projectiles, (mines, missiles, etc)
Large scale fights for stability tests - because you can't test it on your own lol.
Effects usage in fights, such as sounds, etc.
Can gather up volunteers to do tests on.
Possibly allow a late night test hour.
It's also easier to join the main server because not everyone has access to their own routers to host, eg parents have the passwords on the router.
Test playerbase related resources.

Also open up opportunity for community interactivity and feedback.

Of course, they should have limited power such as giving: ability to spawn npcs+pobs, .chase, .beam and .setrep, .addcargo as well as admin cloak.

Also, the purpose of this isn't for major tests, only minor client-side and server-side related updates. Although, I do remember there being a dev server hosted by disco long ago.

Yea we have a test server but maybe something called for it being needed to test on live?

Who are we to judge them for trying to better our game?

A separate instance of the game hosted through the same IP address on maybe another port? Sure. I'd love to set one up for them, where they can test their own equipment and changes, and have other players join them if they like.

There are too many complications to test on the main server regretfully. Though making another entry you double click on the main server list that they have write access too? That's not a bad idea. They can host events on their instance, where people merely log into their version to participate and.. Stuff.

If people have questions as to why it's not doable to give them access to the main server, throw me a PM and I'll go over stuff.

Nah. I'd rather not leave how the server is set up on a normal thread. It's not really a secret, but it really doesn't need to be documented somewhere on here.

As mentioned in your post Justin:

I see both sides. On one side, it's ALWAYS been common knowledge, on both Admin and I assume Dev side that you don't modify .ini files on the live server, as it flags the anticheat. The admins have ALWAYS issued tempbans for people who flag the anti cheat, then we discuss with them and then unban if it wasn't intentional/harmful. This is nothing new.

On the flip side, the matter of distrust I don't agree with, as we should all trust eachother (Devs and Admins), and after Danny provided his answer, the tempban should've been lifted then and there - sadly there was a delay at which point Danny saw he was banned.

I initially thought that "sanction" is just a joke as none of the context given about it seems like a warrant for a cheat-ban. I've accidentally hopped onto the main server with some modified files still in place and nothing came of it after giving a fast note that I screwed up (shiparch, weapon_equip, modified hitboxes, system changes). Also, cheatbans for what is most likely an .ale edit, ... wat.
