Spazzy did great events. And I've been playing together with him for months now.
What he is doing is quite the opposite of ending this.
Dramatic? Oh yes, but certainly does bring up a point. The people who were permabanned should also be given the same opportunity to redeem themselves as Sindroms did, yes?
This wasn't a rushed decision. Spazzy has proven himself very well. I wouldn't support this action if I weren't convinced he's doing good. And hell was I hating him many months ago.
Rethink your own position and that of others from time to time. You want the same.

Everyone gets the chance to redeem themselves. Otherwise there would still be permbans. And probation wouldn't be a thing.

Funny, i know situations about people half as bad as what spazzy did are banned now, some even tried to redeem themselves and got rejected.

All I can do here is just quote @Skorak's words. Nobody tells us how to become more better than the Life. We change. We redeem ourselves. Somebody preferes to live by their past, ending up not quite good. And the other ones trying to gaze into their future, changing themselves for the better life. That is normal.
I know a lot of people who prefer to stick to their past, rather than changing for a better future. And, personally, I don't think that Spazzy is one of them.

Tell that to all the people he hurted with his actions. You play since april 2015, you did not have to commit to a restore of 2 or 3 months back! Making all your hard work go into thin air and let a lot decide to quit the game. During this the server was able to connect sometimes (or under attack other times) So if you approve with these actions? Or him making a group to destroy bases everywhere. Compare this to other bans, but well he is an angel now! SURE
