Let's say someone plans some kind of rescue operation and it involves transporting potentially thousands of the refugees commodity for long distances(short distances like 1 system away would have made enough sense to use a normal cargo transport), would it make sense to use passenger liners for this or will it make more sense to use a regular transport even though it would have been an unbearable experience for the thousands of people in the cargo hold?
I'm asking because I can see both reasons for it to make sense and reasons for it to not make sense; it would make sense because they are specifically made for transporting people, but it doesn't really make sense because why would anyone take a slow bulky liner on such an operation - I guess I'm just looking for opinions to help me make a decision for now since I thought about doing something like this after being with someone who did it before but with normal transports
Depends on the 'expense' the rescue/evacuation operation has. While the Passenger liner is cheaper and is older, I would guess that it would still be nice enough to fit their required numbers. The difference between it being a prison transport and a normal liner is just the individual RP behind it.
WHereas, if your group doesn't care about the wellbeing and their people and just need to get them out of there, a 'Pilgrim(or slave, RP defined) Liner' would be more your forte.
It is just the difference of if you want your refugees to be in comfort or just alive at the end.
@Inferno That makes sense too but the only problem with that is if any uninformed indie police saw it happening they would probably try fining or something but i guess that guves more reason to have some sort of military presence nearby that knows about it

As I said, it really depends. For a mission that would be more than 50% time in a hostile space, I'd definitely took something more maneuverable. So... well perhaps the Serenity. Decent cargo, good armament, small for it's cargo and good turnrate for transport. Doesn't get stuck in lanes at all.
But if the hostile space would make under 20% of the route, than I'd say grab some transport, park liner along the way and go. Or take Serenity anyways
Why ask the Liberty Navy for an escort ? Its Liberty Police's job for such task. You guys keep forgetting that we DO have police factions. The Navy/Military factions are there to keep the invaders/aliens threats outside.
Also, you normally are not allowed to carry more than 650 people on a non-liner cargo ship. So Serenity is a no-no. Unless you want to go for a RP where you modify your cargo hold to actually fit people in there. You know, like life support, chairs and other things a cargo hold would not have in normal cargo ships.

= joke
And i think taking refugees in a normal transport ti actual safety is not going to be a crime is you rp with the authorities beforehand, "rescue" shoild have given that away
