I've played everything but soulstorm, but have recently gotten rid of Dark Crusade, as it is a really crap game--Tau and Chaos are completely unbalanced towards eachother, as are Imperial Guard and Tau.
Chaos < Tau, hands down, nomatter what army the Chaos use.
Tau < Imperial Guard, as the Tau have little-to-no firepower against basic Infantry.
That may have been fixed in a patch (Two had been released when I had it), but still, I refuse to play DC, and if SS is anything like it..then I won't getting that, either.:P

Hehe all races are pretty well balanced in SS, they even managed to balance the Necrons properly, also, Tau are very hard to beat with any race if you know how to play them properly, if you don't..well any race can beat them then:P Same with all other, each race has specific tactics that work for them, some are rushers, some are slow moving heavy armies, some are designed to outmaneuver the enemy. Pick which suits your style best and become good with that race and no one expect a skilled player can counter you. It all comes to that really, skill, there is no uber race that can kill everyone, every race is just as good as the player behind it:)

True, but I hate how they limited the units.
Sometimes you -need- those extra tough units to survive an encounter. In WA, I predator spam--Deadly, if you don't know how to counter it, with a bunch of Possessed to tie up squads and Obliterators to dish out extra damage--if I can't get the obliterators, I make do with a horror/Chaos marine combo.
The ONLY race I cannot survive a 1vs1 insane computer with is Ork....Hell, I assrape insane Chaos as Imperial Guard whenever I can be bothered, and have beaten 3 Insanes with Eldar once--That was hard, as I had to dedicate a few units to tying up their army while jumping inside their base and blowing it up, but still, anything is possible if you have a good tactic, but DC ruined all my tactics by unbalancing it with the Tau and Necron with the other races (Tau seem to do 5x extra damage to Chaos, and take the same amount of damage from Imperial Guard).
But it really all comes down to what units you use, how you use them, when you use them, stuff like that. Would -love- to play you in Winter Assault, but I can only play over Direct Connect for some reason--And I can't be bothered reinstalling.

Whut, they balanced necrons? Might have to get it then, stopped playing when necrons became teh uber - I _really_ liked their style, but it was not even fun. Played GK-chappy - I mean SM - a lot too, but got bored...

Hope you don't mind the thread hijack, but it has to do with w40k..
I have DoW and WA ( gold edition), and recently decided to start playing again, i spent 2 hours trying to get the thing to work, reinstalled quite a few times, but i figured out what the problem was, xfire. I cannot run the game with xfire running, and i never had that problem last time i played. Game would launch, show a part of the THQ intro, then crashed.
Its quite a big deal since i use xfire, alot. Anyone have some ideas on how to fix this? If not, then i guess ill have to do without xfire:(
Dunno about the Xfire problem..
Just run it without it I say, I do it usually anyway.. (I have to turn even Skype off to run it without lags:laugh:)
I have all the Dark Crusade games. Followed them since the inception of the series. However, I am disappointed with the lack of SS living up to the amount of new content its predecessors did. The new races are good, but the Flying units are really pointless, the new campaign is a re-hash of the DC one, and their are still a few balance issues, especially with the IG.

Still, if you like the series, its worth it.

Gonna have to agree with this. I think SS was actually a DOWNGRADE from DC. In Dark Crusade, at least the enemies had special "interactions" depending on your race. I always play SM and when I attacked the Imperial Guard's main base, my commander and their commander would request the other to surrender and have little chats. In SS, NOTHING like that happened. I was expecting something wicked when I stormed the Battle Sister's base with my Marines, but nope. Nothin'. All generic.
