Anyone on my Skype contacts already knows that I got hacked yesterday. I still have no clue how it happened. I am very very careful, never clicked any of the spam links and I thought ads were off. Also, virus scans from 5 different programs came back clean. It seems every day I get at least 2 or 3 people sending me spam links. Obviously Skype is very broken and dangerous for your system.
Which leads me to my question. Why on earth are we still using it when more stable and safe programs are out there? The only reason I can really think of is stubbornness or just being lazy. My suggestion would be Discord. It has all the good features of Skype and would be perfect for the Discovery community. There are other programs out there as well and I'm open to suggestions. I just think we really really really need to ditch Skype.
I second the notion of using discord. As I have said before - the admin crew could easily set up an official, FREE, discord server (it supports up to 1000 users!). It has voice channels, text channels with chatlog, private messages, friendslist and everything else you might need.
If the admins do not feel like setting it up I'd volunteer to set up the usergroups and channel permissions. But discord is by far the best option out there at this point. You can open it in your browser or get the desktop application (then it supports push-to-talk). Free and easy to maintain. You can even have bots for it if you wanted - there's a huge amount available.
Skype is cancer and needs to be treated.
Edit: Oh, and it also has server-wide announcements and pinned topics! Perfect to let newbies know where to look for help!
As much as it would be a good idea to port skype communications into Discord, it would be difficult to do considering how most people are already used to skype and find it easier to use and is part of their everyday life. There are many people that use Discord and we have our own group there, which isn't -that- active (unless there's another one that I'm not in).

Well, i am certain the global leaders will follow if the admins consider this a good idea, eh?

admins probably don't want one more thing to have to worry about
instead, you'd likely have one server per faction
i'd be all for it personally, especially since apparently hijacking is happening now without any user error
i honestly would prefer to use discord since it uses less resources and have more options, however the last two attempts failed because one of the creators deleted the first one and the other did something to get himself permanent banned
