While not having been able to actually write and therefore post a backstory yet, I do have one formulated for myself. My RP is that of a lawful, not independent, though not in any of the official factions either. Shoot all pirates, and render assistance to all good guys/newbies.
I engage Corsairs quite often (mostly of the NPC variety, though sometimes players), and I was wondering: would it be OoRP to equip the guns I looted from them?
My current loadout consists of 4 Adv Splitter Bretonia Tachyon Cannons, and 2 Adv Debbies. Both of those are pretty much as lawful as they go, and the Splitters fit in with my backstory. But, that said, they are definitely not the best guns. Sal Mk IIs do 4 more hull damage (not a big deal), but with about 35 less energy drain per shot than the Splitters.
While I am not willing to sacrifice my RP for just some better guns, I'd always appreciate the extra fire power, especially considering that most civvy/lawful guns pale in comparison to their criminal counterparts.
Any thoughts?

Unfortunately, faction specific weapons, even if looted, are considered a no go. Sure, you can grab them, but then you won't have maintenance for them. Of course that's not a good enough reason, but for the sake of standards, stay away from them.
Stay away from looted weapons. It breeds sanctions.
You might want to flesh out your RP some more, too, because the little snip you put here says "kill all unlawfuls" = PvP whore. If you have a well defined motive, then hunt those you have motive against, not just kill unlawfuls because they're unlawful...

I would stick with the Bretonnian weapons. While the salamancas might be better, the "Looted weapon" story doesn't really buy it here... Otherwise everyone would use corsair shield busters and Outcast hull weapons.
The Bretonnian guns are good, and as you said, better for your RP.
As Sovereign said, I would tone down the "kill all unlawfuls".
' Wrote:Good point. Then again, they have pretty well defined ZoIs. Independent ZoI = everywhere, that's the difference.
But, is that a problem? I mean, it makes sense that if you sign up for the Liberty Navy (SA or whatever), you're goal is to defend Liberty. That's why you joined. However, what would a ZoI be for an independent or "vigilante" lawful defense force? Would they necessarily be restricted to one of the Houses, or for that matter, one group of the outer systems?
I was thinking more along the lines of a universal faction. And, if I'm not mistaken, Bounty Hunters tend to shoot pretty much every single pirate faction out there. Is there any reason why a player faction here couldn't do the same?
EDIT @ Tenacity: *glances down at sig* My character is attached to his faction, Wraith Squadron.

In Sirius, there is no such thing as a universal vigilante force. An "All-Sirius Police Force" won't go down good at all here, some bounty hunters think that is their job already...
Anyway, any militaristic faction which goes around killing pirates would probably be ousted out of any House, as they rob them of jobs and are a threat to the House's security. The Bounty Hunters Guild is an exception, but the Houses don't like them either.
The Bounty Hunters Guild should only be attacking pirates if they are contracted/fufilling a bounty contract. So that point isn't correct.
