The.Maverick.VI
"Do not go gentle into that good night."
Song of the Stars
As the time passed, several ships bearing Maverick name and a respective number gained status of legendary vessels. Many of Zoner on Freeports gossips around about the brave and valiant crews that roam voids of Sirius rewriting silent song of the stars anew. It was only matter of time someone would try to do the same.
Registered as The.Maverick.VI, as an act of homage and respect, this vessel packs a reasonable crew which threw their savings into a bucket and decided upon leaving safe Baffin System. Whilst it is not as impressive as the remaining Maverick 'family' vessels, it encloses no less bold pathfinders and adventures, alongside with package of relatively efficient equipment bound for deep space exploration.
The trade routes may have made Sirius smaller and less of a myth and magic, but space remains a dangerous place...
Major Relations and Affiliates
Pope Bretonnias - Great Pope of the Church of Eris and idealistic figure; known from Baffin System as a visioner and master. Idol.
Nicole Prower - A pretty friendly 5th Fleet pilot met back in Liberty. Friendly.
Guildmaster Mephistoles - A person that heavily disregards the House Law and the Zoner customs; encountered in Liberty. Unfriendly.
Today's day had been an interesting one. Our vessel is back to the Baffin again, after all these issues between us and the Bounty Hunters Guild. That guy, the Guildmaster, had been found a rather unwanted individual, as he and his motley crew didn't even care for our safety. This said, the Liberty itself proved to be a place of all the ridiculities that made Zoners leave the House Space on their own in search for their place in the stars. That, however, should not be an issue as our place is outside the Liberty - unless there is need to bring samples from Omicron Delta into New York. But I think that's all when it comes to that cursed House.
It reminds me. The Maverick VI should hit one of BowEx bases. Last time we got cargo from there, one of these stinky animals seemed to get a stop and now flies around with us. The stupid fuzz is pretty smart as we couldn't even catch it red handed. But I know it's over there. The food cache has been partialy plundered again. I even wanted to flush entire cargo hold with Toxic Waste to kill that damn thing, but I quickly resigned from that idea realizing it would take millions to make ALG scrub all the crap from the interiors. I hope the Bowex have better ways to get rid of the animal. Good thing is, I don't have any allegry to that. It would be... pretty ironic.
For now, the course is set for the Upper Tau Systems. Goal? We need to chart certain parts of these systems again. The maps I use now seems to be dated, at best.
That preacher had been causing a fuss again. I get we are from Baffin System and Cult of Eris is the top religion in there. While I do not deny the pure intentions of Mark, I must cease his access to the shiplogs. I do not think that Baffin Religion is really wanted anywhere out of Baffin, as commented some guys in the LPI or Navy. This said, I must really rethink Mark's attendance in the entire project. Whilst my faith layeth in Eris is, I cannot allow some fanatic to ruin the fundamentality of our neutrality and basis of our very deep space mission.
I think Mark is out of this mission. I'll need to find another and more reliable member of Maverick VI as soon as possible. Return to Baffin is highly required at this rate. It's a pity we got to turn back to the Home, but maybe revision of entire vessel would be a good change as well. Maverick VI might be small and fast, but there are some concerns of mine I need to share with Baffiners. I know it's not a sanctioned mission under the direct Pope's control, but I'd rather not to risk the infamy of the ship's name.
The Maverick VI, after some disconcerns regarding the mission back in Baffin System, left the safe area around Pueblo Bonito. The vessel itself undertook several minor improvements on basis of old Osprey Mk II chasis, alongside with typical equipment used by all the Zoners. The vessel however became more of a deep exploration vessel rather than a valid research ship, with most of the systems automated to serve one man. The argument between the Preacher and LeRoy had made it clearly a problem, especially with Cult of Eris being not really accepted that much in the hostility of various regions, thus the Preacher was removed from the mission - to LeRoy's relief.
From now on, it was him and only him to explore the vastness of space. LeRoy still remembered the final chat with one of the mechanic-engineers back on Pueblo Bonito.
"Will it fly far without any refueling?" asked LeRoy in a careful manner. He could never be entirely sure of safety in the alien voids, given the experience he had already got.
"It should sustain for a pretty long time, as the CHN engines should be more reliable than the usual stuff made within the Edge Worlds. The simplicity is still the same," one of the Zoner engineers noted.
LeRoy quickly raised his eyebrow. "How did you get hands on a purely Crayterian engine in the first place, mind me asking?" The scientist did not really like the situation when stuff could be stolen and cause a lot of issues.
"Well, to be honest," the engineer replied, "it was brought to Shasta pretty long time ago, but we never had any need to introduce such an engine to any of our vessels."
"Until today, yeah, I get it." LeRoy disliked the dishonest reply, but if it was from the legal source and most likely forgotten - if stolen - then it had to be enough for The Maverick VI. Both fame and infamy could bring trouble to the ones doing the reseach, but also a small fortune. And fame itself. "I'm off to the dock then. And..." he made a dramatical pause. "Better pray to Eris that everything is in place and my vessel won't explode."
Else, LeRoy thought, it could be the fastest exploration effort. Ever.
