The Emperor is most displeased with your apparent lack of sushi.
But, I do wonder what the ratio is of Unethical Robocops-Keystone Cops-Kings is in the LPI. The whole incompetence thing is very interesting from a suspension of disbelief perspective.

' Wrote:1. Do independent (non-faction-affiliated), house-military-ID'd vessels have the same authority in their house space as vessels from factions representing the NPC house militaries?
From a roleplaying standpoint, yes. The SA is no more Liberty Navy than any other Liberty Navy ID'd and Tagged Navy ship. They are perhaps a different battle group but not "superior" from any other standpoint.
' Wrote:2. Does the ID's specification that the holder is presumed to have joined the house military require them to join the proper faction? Should it, perhaps?
No, and no from a practical standpoint.
' Wrote:3. How should lawful civilian vessels, such as HGL's, respond to these ships? Do we have to obey their orders?
Respond like you would to anyone carrying a badge and a gun.
' Wrote:4. More importantly, if they are abusive, to whom do we appeal? If we do not cooperate, is that tantamount to defying the laws and factions of that house?
They have a badge, a gun, and (in roleplay) fellow officers who will side with them against you. So you're screwed until you can file a complaint with a civilian review board.
' Wrote:While I understand and respect the significance of IDs for RP, it seems rather absurd to me that we would have to obey the orders of such vessels, especially when they are arbitrarily and unnecessarily rude (which I find to be rather oorp for a house authority). Any player could bribe or do missions for a house military, get the ID and ship, and then go out and order everyone around with no faction RP, training, or most importantly, supervision and accountability. I can't see how the rest of us are bound by that.
Cops and soldiers are often rude. Check this out : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9GgWrV8TcUc
They still have a badge and a gun. Treating them as if they don't have a badge and a gun, isn't authentic roleplaying, even though it sucks to be bossed around by a power mad 12 year old. I'm sure a lot of parents know that feeling quite well.

Small correction, Xoria; The Southern Alliance are the Southern Liberty Navy, half of the Liberty Navy. Battlegroups are different and smaller entities in naval terminology.
About SA giving orders to indies, the ranks are equally respected, meaning a high ranking officer of the SA gives orders to low ranking indies, also they fall under the jurisdiction of the high command as in RP, they do in fact work together, its not like they're enemies and they go "No we won't listen to you! You're part of the southern navy! Even though you outrank us by miles we will not obey!". Its a simple chain of command, they are divided because of simplicity, not because of differences.

One other minor thing :
If the established player factions would incorporate the indies into their chat groups and activities more, there would be fewer problems.
I have been flying around Liberty for quite a few hours on a certain indy LSF character, and I have not yet been invited to join in anything by the established factions' members.
If you shut them out, then you both lose any measure of influence, and the ability to criticize their lonely activities. (Not complaining about myself, that character is for a specific purpose and I don't really care)
We in The Lane Hackers do our best to include the Hacker indys who come our way, and the rest of you are better off for it, believe me.

Problem is, Brian'd probably have to demote his own character for that to happen, or the LSF would be retconned as split like the Navy.
Plus, you are comparing a monolithic military intelligence organisation with a large pirate gang. Big enough pirate groups naturally fracture into warlordism, whereas you don't see 30 CIAs all over the place in real life.
That, or you could deliver some kind of a petition to ban people using monolithic names for factions to the admins or Igiss.
Well SA and LSF always invites the LNS guys into groups, but its a bit harder to find all the random navy and LSF people that are online...as they're not marked in any way, so all we can do is randomly invite them if we run into them.

Try a 4 1/2 -year-old...:)
Anyway, my questions had more to do with the RP place of IDs outside of representative factions, especially in a situation where (1) I'm not outnumbered, (2) other house authorities seem unfriendly to them, and (3) in a setting notorious for oorp behavior. I'm quite happy to RP this type of situation; it just wasn't clear to me that that's what they were doing. Now I know.
I think we've answered these questions several times already. Thanks all.
