Im running out of ideas for characters to play and would like a splash of fresh gameplay.
Located in Aus I find it really hard to participate in any PvP action since my ping is at 400 minimum.
I've been into the trading for quite some time, owning plenty of transports and a miner for building moneys. I also have a Battlecruiser that acts as my trophy/bank account.
I also have a designated RP character but that can only go so far, in terms of where people are and who they are attached to.
I've had a go at pirating, but with the number of stubborn traders about its only a matter of time before they just take a lane that is still down for me.
You could try playing antagonistic underdog smugglers. It's a surprisingly fun RP environ, is necessarily higher RP than conventional trading since people have more motivation to interact with you. Going unlawful with smuggling rather than quasi can be more satisfactory due to the higher associated risks.
It's a good way to have fun.

Do a checklist of things you want your character to have to begin with. If you want the lowest possible start, take a Light Fighter, maybe not the Stargazer, run it on Freelancer ID and roam around, looking for player interaction and ways of making money. Your could start with looking for food and jobs that allow you to get food. Nothing is more funny than a hungry guy that constantly is begging for food, if it's done nicely.
The classical case would be the Freelancer that is trying to get involved into Sirius' mysteries, be it about Cultists, the Nomads or other factions. You could also research Baxter Anomalies, Nebulae, Asteroid Fields (surveing them) or you join military factions as hireling, or try your luck as escort for traders and just hope you never encounter pirates.
Alternatively, you could play on the other side: The nomads, a nomad worshipper or if you are good with the nomad lore, an infected. You also could play a not very successful pirate and become a constant but funny annoyance in Liberty and Bretonia. Nothing is better than established antagonists, for example Admiral Sir Richard George Hall of the Bretonian Armed Forces and his adversary Pepe "El Comisario" Ladron. You could also join intelligence factions in order to stalk other people, Auxesia for example. I'm sure the Bretonian Intelligence Service could use some people to look for them.

Sorry, that is reserved for @Blackwell. Just kidding, but the not-very-successful pirate would end up either getting finger-waggled at by some of the more fun Lawfuls, or getting Solaris LAC'd by the LNS/OverKirk'd by the HMS.
If you can pull off being a pirate that people think 'Oh, it's him again, maybe he is having better luck than last time.' and they can enjoy the interaction, then good for you. I once tried that, but I didn't get very far.

To be fair, I like how @-Rax- plays the Rogue "Uncle Willy". It's one of the most npnp-ish pirates I ever saw in Liberty. Balanced kill/death count, always available for some funny lines, even when death is inevitable. Very good portrayal of a well-known pirate.
