allow me to be more specific...like I said, the engine looks fine in the stills but as a gaian engine specifically? Not so much.
I'm just saying that it would be nice to have a gaian engine with a cruise flame that doesn't clip into the gaian ship models (which has been an issue for years & still is) along with not belching any exhaust whatsoever.
If the goal is simply to make something that looks cool & that's it, you're on the right track. if, however the goal were to create an engine that would presumably be made by a bunch of environmentalists, for the ships they fly, then it would make far more sense to take a much more minimalist approach & nix the belching emissions entirely & make the flame specifically fit their ships. as far as the color of the flame itself, green is cool, but it's mostly irrelevant.

again, just my opinion.
Yeah, I catch what you mean. But since there was no really suggestion made, there was some creative freedom to make it more visually interesting. Most engines I do are based upon their faction colours, so I made it match the guns. But, if we were going to go with making it match the lore as close as possible, it may as well be a CTE recolour, a tiny flame, which nobody would like because it's a super boooring effect.
Also the clipping into the models thing seems to be more of an engine hardpoint issue than the effect itself, which it's placed inside the model.

would there be a possibility of doing cte recolor & have it offered alongside this new one in order to at least give people a choice? At least then, it would be a way to actually gauge player preference in the next update that can be tweaked for the next if needed.
Given the flaws of the gaian ship models, a tiny flame is exactly what's called for...& just an observation: Saying 'nobody would like it because it's a super boring effect' is not the same as specifically saying that you know for a fact that nobody wants it. It comes off as simply a personal opinion & I can't help but wonder how many people who play gaians were asked for their opinions prior to beginning work on the engine.
I'm not trying to be difficult...I'm honestly curious.

I'd be all for having recolours of house stuff as black market engines but that's up to the dev team, not me, unfortunately.

That's an answer to the first part of my question, & I appreciate that, but I'm more interested an answer to the second part. It was my mistake for calling it & wording it as an observation. my bad.
how many opinions of people who play gaians did you ask prior to beginning work on the engine in order to separate what appears to be a decision based more on personal aesthetics than anything else?
& another question: assuming that you've specifically mounted & tested your new engine on the gaian ships, how much improved (if at all) is the clipping issue on them as opposed to the current issues now?

I rushed the reply because I was making dinner and ingame, also since that some of the Gaians players seem to oorply hate me at the time they were being made, nor do I have contact with any of them on Skype - barring Saurissmo (sorry if I wrote that wrong) who I asked in the OFL chat back when I was a blue name. I think. Can't remember.
And yes, I did test it on the gaian engine. It's just that the model has a really small engine exhaust, and it's important that the engine universally fits with all fighters for cosmetics. Clipping really isn't that much of an issue. I'll check the hardpoint in a sec.
note to mods: since this ain't a flood worthy thread, it deserves to be moved out of it
Auz, I'd like to ask that you find the time (sometime soonish) to show any possible clipping improvements with pics of the new engine using a gaian ship.
Using my Anaconda, I offer up some examples of how bad the clipping is now. (& very similar to how bad it's always been since the chameleon was introduced)
I honestly hope that when you say "Clipping really isn't that much of an issue" it's because you saw how much of an issue it really is now & took the steps to improve it.
However, it's my nature to hope for the best & expect the worst & based on your replies, it doesn't inspire confidence that you have, so you'll forgive me & understand my desire for proof
As my examples show, because of the design of this specific ship, the overbloated clipfest light halo from the flame surrounding the majority of the ship is the primary driver of my argument as to why the design flaws need to be adapted to & the flame size reduced significantly, regardless of my preference for RP minimalism.
If the gaians are to have a gaian-made engine, then the engine should fit as perfectly as possible specifically to the gaian shipline & should not suffer simply for the sake of general univesality.
