How does Freelancer help?

I'm a bit confused, because Nyx once said Freelancers aren't allowed to hire other Freelancers. How is that now exactly? Can Freelancers assist each other, can they hire each other or how is that exaclty? Like, common sense seems to be not work in that case. And please don't give me speculations but facts.

Well, it's all in the ID.

-Can attack any ship in self-defense or to protect an friendly or allied ship.-

Rep wise, Freelancers are Allied to Freelancers. End of Story. This server is very strict about it's ID's, I don't think anyone would argue with this.

This was discussed (and clarified later on?) in a different thread, which I can't find unfortunately.
Wasn't it forbidden to hire Freelancers as a generic ID (Pirate ID, for example)?

Freelancers are not allowed to attack (i.e. open fire first) unless on contract with non-generic ID (rule 4 here). Assisting in an ongoing fight is another matter and regulated by ID line that @Snoflek quoted above.

The point of this rule is that freelancer cannot hire another freelancer to attack someone, if I understand it correctly.
