Hey, I hope it's not taboo to revive a 2-day old thread, I am interested in this topic.
I would like to play a Rheinland military captain, whose trial for being needlessly cruel to both pirates and civilians had been put on low priority as the need for a defensive force increases. Obviously he has been given the warning that there won't be a second chance, and is looked down on by colleagues (his existence is a touchy and shameful topic at best).
Now I would just like to play in the Rheinland Militairy faction for a long time, until his sadistic tendencies get the better of him again and he comes in conflict with the RM. At that point I'd like to continue as a turncoat mercenary, still in the same ship, complete with 100+ crew whose undying loyalty to their captain is unmatched.
I would like to take my time with this and built up a strong convinceable character before doing anything radical.. But after such effort, I don't want to be sanctioned for flying a Rheinland ship.
By that it sounds like he'd fit right into the RM... I say if the RP is good, go for it. We talking about a Gunboat or Cruiser here, cuz Cruisers can't be used by mercs. Oh, join the LWB! Wesley's lonely:D
Alright, I have some experince with this so I'll put in my two cents.
I deserted the RM faction, a full on atemped on a seinor member's life followed by a break for freedom. I managed to escape, initaly, with the ship intact. When I did land, after convincing the Junkers I had done what I had (it helped I had saved one while deserting) I docked. From there I used sme common sence, I had taken some hull damage and lost a wing. Logicaly to me, Yanagai was within a Debris feild full of Wraths/Valkyries so I repaired the wing and most of the hull damage through the dealer. I allowed Nanbots to do the rest.
I then proceeded into 2 conflicts With the RM, with the latter resulting in my Wrath being destroyed. Once that happenedI bought an alterantive ship. At the time, that was a Raven Claw (it ws sold on a Junker Base). Now that said, Jack as a Character preffered the Wrath over other VHF's, and I was working on buying one off of a Third Party. In essnece, theThird Party would by one off of a Military actuion (The military would be getting rid of equipment the don't want anymore and making a profit) That said the Wrath would be in a pretty mangled condition, I was planning on getting the wings ripped off initaly and slowly repair it over time, unless it was destroyed.
While the story is pretty good, there's one little problem- the Valkyrie is sold as a bonus, but not the Wrath. However, it is conceivable that Junkers could patch the smaller stuff in Sigma-13 and effectively "convert" Valkyries into low scale Wraths- if you did this, I would expect you to not use armor upgrades on your Wrath to represent that.
That usually goes for all defector ships, Wesley Richter non-withstanding because of the, err, mini-jumphole generator thingie...
Fine, I guess I'll explain how it works here... the Nomad Energy Cell in the ship is conscious, as in it thinks. To save itself when the ship's about to blow, it transports the ship somewhere else, which takes most of its energy. Then it regains power (how I explain off the 4-hour rule, it takes 4 hours), all the while passively repairing the damage that the LWB would be unable to repair because of the custom parts.
That's the explanation, happy all? I don't like giving stuff from the story away.
Well.. Will you be having a nomad power cell in your hull?
It'll be pretty expensive to get it again when you get blown up. but hey at least you know who to buy it from
Damn! So many people must be thinking 'Why didnt I think of that?'. (well, me, atleast)
I would like to use a Cruiser, but it's okay if I can't use the mercenary ID. I was more thinking of a mercenary who fights for a faction without caring about their cause, rather than a merc who does odd jobs and hunts for bounties.
The reason I want it to be a Rheinland Cruiser is because the character is proud of being in the army, and loves his crew and the Rheinland flag, even after the RM decides he can no longer be part of them. This is exactly why he rebels against his resignment, because he wants to stay in his beloved ship with his beloved crew, fighting war after war in Rheinland's name.
Parting ways with the cruiser will destroy his character concept.
More thoughts?
It's all in the future ofcourse, because I do want to be a honest RM member first, but I figure it's best to plan ahead.
