I have argued this my self in he past, and have been told that bounty hunters only hunt unlawfuls whereas mercs hunt for the highest bidder. It's frustrating I know. But until we get some admin green that's my best position on it
Thats the point of a Mercenary group, else would be just another bounty hunter. All they need is have one "house" they dont attack/neutral
from where they operate from, could be Img space, or Sairs, or Outcasts or dunno.
Surely need to know before hand will get fr5'ed in most places, but, meh, pirates same...
If they prey lawfuls, surely they will be a unlawful group, you cant attack an navy officer (for example) and dont expect retaliation.
I see looot of work if you guys can effectively terminate your targets, and lt of RP coming from it.
The potential is really great, but problems may be equally sized
Unlawful bounty hunters are called mercs because the bounty hunter name is hogged by the bounty hunters guild. They use freelancer ID and civilian tech and work for the highest bidder. And being a merc is nothing new.
You'll need to juggle faction reputations with some diplomacy roleplay, and you won't get capital ships ever, except if you produce a convincing SRP for each of them ships.
I think you need some more experience with how things run in Disco RP before being able to run a headache free, successful faction though. If you were ready for this type of thing, you'd know that there's no need to ask about such an idea.
I had such idea many years ago to create an ID which would be like that. Truth is, if you work against someone, in 99% you are banned from their bases and killed by their faction members without any further questions asked. That's why such an idea is bound to fail. Sounds good on paper, doesn't work during the actual crashtest.
Yeah no s*** they'll retailate. The purpose of this thing is to have fluid reputations because of your faction's lack of loyalty for any side. It is fun to play such diplomacy out too.
You can't remove that aspect and turn it into a brainless pew platform because for some reason the people you shoot at are too stupid and don't mind getting shot at. If the OP wants to play that, tough luck.
Just expect to be hit by multiple FR5s the very moment you decide to actually go against someone. I doubt that anybody will ever manage to do these Reaver stunts again, when those who were formerly shot at agree to get good with the mercs again. No faction has that dominance in pvp any more to do that.
So, if you are prepared to have your rep fixed by your actions and FR5s against you, I do not see any problem.
I am just thinking about "where to operate" because there is little pvp happening in Disco these days. The only place I get reliable fixes of pvp is Delta at the moment, and... NY. That's it, pretty much.
In general, I decided to update the topic due to the fact that now I really had an interest in this idea in terms of implementation.
As I imagine, these will be people with ID freelancers and IFF Bounty Hunters. InRP will not be able to understand that a person from our faction (ie the same situation as with some Wilde). This will not worsen relations with other factions (as I believe).
