It dosent mater what it is called in RP now , Liner or Civilian Carrier!
That was only meant as temporaly solution RP wise, as substitute for Barge, and with docking module on, it is supposed to be fun for group fights.
But, since docking modules, quite obviusly , will never be fixed, it was left in curent, Combat wise completly worthless 500 M expensive RP toy.
It was suggested, a lot of times, to be buffed a little, by adding something, anything, to make it worth at battle a little, like adding more Secondary slots, converting current number of Secondary slots in to Battleships secondaries slots, enable use of snubs or gunboat missiles on it, but all request and suggestion were denied, i guess it was more important to change engine color or something of some oficial faction.
I think the bustard as it stands is okay, its a solid RP shiny that people have to pay for if they want it. It's amazing that CIVs get a cap at all. If Civs really need a proper cruiser (which I cant see any house military liking) then I suggest scaling down the old Bustard model https://discoverygc.com/wiki/images/arch...ard%22.png into a light cruiser and then having both in the game.
someone suggested a larger version to be used for a GMG BC but that conversation went dead.

Suggestion A: Give it Cruiser Heavy slots
With Cruiser codenames available and the recent nerfs to Cruiser guns (FFS why did you nerf Pulse, devs?), perhaps a couple, maybe Turrets 5 and 6, of the Bustard's guns should have the option to mount Cruiser Heavy Turrets, mostly because it would look cool. Also, it would make Bustard more customizable with no visible downsides to the pvp environment's other occupants beyond "Oh wait, it can LM us now. Better use our Thruster a bit more."
Suggestion B: Single BS Heavy slot
Make Mount 8 a BS Heavy slot so Bustards can Nightmare peeps, or mount one of those cool cap codenames. The introduction of Transport flaks have made Bustard's extremely limited missile defense abilities able to done more efficiently, both in terms of actual credit cost and in terms of area covered. A flak-equipped Taureau can do the same job for a little under 1/10th of the cost of a Bustard, and has the added bonus of being able to make any snub shield disappear at will.
Again, further customization options with little to no functional change in how a fight will play out beyond the Bustard having a bit more punch in a 360 arc on its top side.
Bad ideas, It is basically a Civilian ship and it shouldnt use any military-grade capital ship weaponary except basic guns.
If we give heavy capital weapons you will see lots of this around because Currently Bustard have Battlecruiser Survivability.
It has 7million powercore that can be very dangerous with some heavy capital weaponary
If you can mount a heavy weapons that means you can also mount Capital Codes, that will double the danger.
Whats the point of Military ships if we give military weapons to Civilian ships?
Second idea is even worse, Nightmare torpedo only for Military/Pirate Battleships not for some Battlecruiser-level ship.
Basically, about the idea of civilians getting a cruiser-like ship, it comes down to this:
- No corporation will want to sell something that there is no true market for (even house militaries develop their own stuff);
- We all know what happens when pirates get access to "civilian cruisers";
- In real life, not even a Billionaire can buy a cruiser/destroyer and even if they did - they wouldnt be allowed to have guns on them. Travelling would also be a problem, most countries will simply deny access to their territory (air, water, land, whatever).
What CAN happen, though is this:
A.) You could make a getaway with a faction ship (has happened a lot), provided it makes RP sense and you have allies to cover you;
B.) You can build yourself a custom ship (if you have the skills in 3D modelling or someone else), which will then be balanced accordingly (or denied if it cannot be balanced).
+ You can have a good, interesting story around it, how it came to be, how you got the money to construct it, what you want to do with it;
+ You will be subject to roleplay consequences (like factions wanting to hunt you down, others wanting to steal the blueprints for it, some will want to cooperate with you for their own benefit);
+ Any rule infraction can mean the loss of your special toy, so the whole idea encourages playing responsibly;
As for a "generic civilian cruiser", please DONT ask for it, it's a really bad idea!

BCs have Thrusters. Bustard does not. It's a Battleship in terms of cost and maneuvering, and possesses no CD either. The thing needs customization options badly, because my only real options right now in terms of aesthetics are to use weapons of dubious in-House legality and take a 75% nerf... to make my pitiful dps look shiny.
Is this thread really about a complaint that civilian technology, which is not meant to be on par with military-grade equivalents, is not on par with military-grade equivalents?

EDIT: Ah, all right eigos.
Another option would be for you to learn how to make Weapon FX and create interesting "code weapons" for the cruiser light slots, that we may add to the droptable on missions and there is your new shiny stuff to choose from!
