Emerging from his troubled past, Nerva fought his way up the social ladder. After his parents died near planet Gammu, he was picked up by a Corsair Patrol. Fortunately, his technical skills kept him alive, since the Corsairs were in need of qualified people to fix their ships. With help from a Corsair chief mechanic, Nerva managed to gather enough money to buy himself a ship and start his journey into the academic world.

Growing into a Zoner Scientist, he found a home aboard the Unity and in the outer reaches of space. He often supplemented his research by transporting Sake out of Kusari. During one of his trips, he encountered a group of Blood Dragons going by the name of The Tears of Izanagi. The same radical Blood Dragon movement that later became The Kijima Clan when their Daimyo secured acceptance into the Hideyoshi Shogunate.

Since then, Nerva has forged friendships with all the Blood Dragon clans. Furthermore, when the Daimyo of the Augus clan was badly wounded in a duel for the leadership of his clan, Nerva offered to give him a place to live aboard his ship.

After being involved in several projects with each of the Blood Dragon clans, Nerva was finally invited to meet the Shogun. During their meeting, the Yobukumin Daimyo, a clan that was lurking in the shadows, tried to use Nerva's meeting with the Shogun in order to assassinate the Blood Dragon Leader. Nerva intervened by firing an arrow through the assailants chest, thus narrowly saving the Shoguns life. This bow was an elegant heirloom, crafted for a late Minamoto Daimyo. With a firing string made up of complex micro-switches controlled by intricate circuitry within the object, which were though to be dysfunctional and worthless. Nerva's touch activated the heirlooms delicate sensory apparatus which reacted after reading the genetic markers of its wielder. Not only had Nerva saved the Shoguns life, but he had also unknowingly informed the Shogun of his true heritage.

Under the guise of an quirky traditional sentiment Heung obtained a sample of Nerva's blood. This was confidentially analyzed by Hirotada Watanabe, the Daimyo who had first recovered the bow from the Overwatch and completed the first study of the item. Hirotada confirmed that whomever owned the blood was in that vial was a Minamoto descendant. Moreover, with the lack of a proven Minamoto noble on Kyoto, he was also entitled to the honoured rank of Daimyo.

This was the day that Professor Nerva took up the alter ego - Daimyo Kamakura Minamoto. His dual identity only being known by The Shogun, Heung and Daimyo Kijima; who being a close friend of the professor, understood his own internal challenge and offered the Minamoto Clan claim over one of their outer systems and resources. All of this in exchange for vassalage to the Kijima Clan. Will Kamakura Minamoto embrace his new found heritage? Will Professor Nerva remain the same as he was before? Will he succeed in finding a balance and peace in being both?
