' Wrote:Ahh come on, I even TOLD them why this was stupid. I flew around in my 101st for a while and there were tons of people sitting around in Alpha asking me to lead a raid on Gamma, I refused and told them that they were not to go there under any circumstances...stupid.
Aye, may have been stupid...BUT
Seeing the Corsairs have struck us at Malta, twice a day 3 days straight, (usually all Cap ships) stomping on any defender in their path & mind you, mostly knocking down under armed rookies with basic load out Saber's that were trying to defend. When the 101'st that were present ( maybe 2 or 3) they fought honorably, As did the rookies & Independents that were in the system. But simply put.. 4 or 5 basic saber rookies, 2 maybe 3 101's vs a Corsair Battleship with 2 destroyers & a gunboat = dead outcast fighters.
When seeing we finally had a sizeable group sitting infront of Malta (14 ships in all.. with 4 more coming from afar to support) The chance to strike back after 3 days of pounding looked good. Yes, we was defeated. But after reveiwing the battle, We took out over a dozen npc fighters, 4 player fighters, 4 player gunboats, a bomber or 2 & I swear I seen a dessie get blown apart & we did engage a Order Cap ship that kinda snuck up on us.
Allthough we suffered losses , We showed the corsairs we aint going to sit back & take a daily beating. & the moral of the group after the fight was FAR higher than what it has been after days of getting beatin down in front of our homeworld. Personally.. I think the 101'st should be handing out medals to all in that attack group that were brave enough to take the fight to the attackers for once. & I also personally will join any group that wishes to do it again!
I, for one, believe there was nothing stupid about what we did. I think we did excellent even though we lost, simply because of the fact that most of us were indie Outcasts who didn't have prior mass battle experience together. This was not a "planned" event that pilots have time to practice and prep for. This was an instant decision to make the raid agreed on by everybody at Malta at the time.
I've been in a few big battles before, but none that compares to this scale. This was an excellent display of RP from all who took part. I'm not sure about the Corsair side, but the Outcasts, while flying to Crete in formation, had EXCELLENT comm chatter. Well thought out comms from everyone, with almost no "//, LOLZ, or other non-RP chatter".
This was, by far, one of the best nights I've had in my short 6 months here on Discovery, and I look foward to this again real soon.
I, for one, would be honored if a bunch of Corsairs took the time to hit Malta unplanned while I was buzzing around Alpha looking for something to do besides gunning for BH. A massive unplanned surprise attack is a perfect example of what good RP is all about. It makes you realize that danger can come from ANY direction, at ANY time, usually when you least expect it.
This wasn't 3 bored Outcasts hanging around Malta, planning a little hit-and-run raid. This was a massive assult on our arch enemy with destroyers, gunboats, fighters, and bombers. And all put together in about 15 minutes I might add. That is impressive in itself.
I thought, given the size of our fleet, we would emerge victorious and the Corsairs would realize exactly how powerful we are. HOW WRONG I WAS. I know I said this in my previous post, but I must say it again. The Corsairs have one helluva defense squadron. You boys know the value of your homeworld, and when trouble comes, you come from every direction to defend her. WELL DONE.
I learned a few things last night. NEVER, EVER underestimate your opponent. Not all is as seems. The Corsairs are an extremely well organized opponent, skilled and deadly.
And I definitely need more fighter practice.
Excellent job all, some of the best RP I've seen here yet.
My helmet's off to all of you, I was an honor flying with and fighting you.
You ask me why Im weary, why I cant speak to you.
You blame me for my silence, say Its time I changed and grew.
But the war's still going on dear, and theres no end that I know...
And I cant say if were ever...
I cant say if were ever gonna be free.
They werent exactly fighting alone either, myself and another order pilot came to help out after seeing how horribly outnumbered the corsairs were.
I probably would have gotten there earlier if it werent for the damn BH NPC's too... I had my cruise disrupted constantly by BH patrols spawning under 1500m from my ship.
Might have to make a post in the dev forum about that... why can we see players from 14k but hostile npc's spawn at under 2k?
I wasn't there, but it sounds like NiteWing, Watcher, 1CM, and Jolly_Roger were ticked. See, on Friday, I and the above, plus a dessie and another Sabre, had to go eliminate a few 'sair GB's in Alpha. They fled to Eta and tried to trap us. Their loss.
It's good that the war is seeming it be picking up again.

I missed it. I am wondering how many Indies there were. There have been a lot of indy outcast sabres appearing lately, and thats really cool. I am considering getting a few people together to set up the OC training school, where we teach bomber/fighter piloting to the new indies.
I can account for 2 of them, myself,Thrakhath and a good friend Flagg. We both were flying sabres. There were 17-18 players in the group. I for one could use some flight training.
