"Mauler" Turret Systems

Hallo I am Dr Valentina Margarethe Angelika Katrin Depperschmidt ze Third, also known as Val. Ya, dhat Depperschidt.

Okay, so I, ze propulsion systems expert of ze unioner foolishly decided to dabble in modern turret systems vhich I know nothing about. Vell, I know a little, more dhen ze average spacer probably. Ah vell, anyway ya intro. So I have been tasked by Franz Rousse of ze Sirene to design or improve a Class 6 or 7 Turret for a cruiser ya. Vell I'm looking through some of our information archives and did a crash course on Pulse, Energy, Bolt and Missle turrets. Vell not impossible for me to design a new turret, it ist very difficult. Still, I love challenges and maybe if I do Mister Rousse vill let me look at ze engines of ze cruiser, ist a nice ship.

Right, professionalism. So, how does one build a turret from scratch? Vell, if you are a house military you take it to design bureaus, oversee and design blueprints, have a committee vote on vhat design ist best and hopefully not build by committee. Believe me, some ships are badly designed due to many idiots vanting dhis or dhat. Vell, ze unioners don't have dhat so vhat is alternative? Ahh, I shall take apart vhat turrets ve have and test dhem. Preferably on asteroids, I don't vant to test turrets out in ze field even on dirty jackboots, I might get killed and dhen vhere vould all ze research go. So ya, take apart vhat works and put dhem together in a Frankenstein fashion and hopefully not blow up...my ship heh. You have, ze basic cerberus turrets and dhey are very gut but I'd rather vant to see turrets outside of ze Rhein. The problem about working on Rhein tech ist dhat you limit your technological and engineering know-how so ist best to start vith turrets dhat ve have outside of ze Rhein. I vould really like to see a Coalition turret for instance.

TEXT PORTION


HYPOTHESIS

  1. That you can improve or build a better cruiser turret from parts of other turrets.
  2. That you don't need to make something from scratch merely borrow good design choices from other turrets.
  3. That getting tech from outside the Rhein will be fruitful for the Unioner's future.
  4. Personal: That I can be trusted with Unioner Projects by it's leaders.


MATERIALS
  1. Different types of turrets from as far as possible (Discounting Alien tech, I'm not touching that)
  2. A testing ship, or a ship willing to let me modify there turrets.
  3. A safe testing ground with asteroids, Pacifica would be good or other bases far away
  4. A assistant to help me record data, Contact Vulkan
  5. Perhaps a "target" ship for tracking and testing shield damage we probably have some old transports around
  6. A good pilot, I can fly but I'm not the best.

PROCEDURE
  1. I will examine the different types of turrets
  2. I will test these turrets on asteroid or target ship to gauge damage, turning speed and power use.
  3. I will see what components make up these turrets and if they can be dismantled or even for future use, replicated.
  4. I will modify existing Unioner turrets to create project "Mauler"
  5. I will report my findings, success or failure to Unioner Command
  6. I will try to see if I can begin mass production of a successful prototype

RESULTS
  1. Results will be updated when I conduct testing!
