i absolutely disagree with the Bastile thing proposal, by doing this you would probably loose a lot of new players, i am not sure when you started your journey through discovery but try to, if you are new you are lost in all the rules as is you don't need additional obstacles. and as bear said freelancers would be at loss.
If you ask me, starting is as good as it should be. Nothing should be changed there, there are plenty of other fields of disco that could be better though.
Getting the noobs out mean not letting the new players in.
If you think a player wanted to read a forum for like 20 days before starting to play - you are wrong, people like to read the rules and start playing, then they are lost as is and come to forums to read more, then they see easiest way is to join a faction, and get lost again, then more forum stuff, then join a faction, and more forum, at least that's how i went, and i think i spend more time on forum then in game (much more), which is stupid but as it is a really huge game with so many systems, and rules to oblige i guess this is necessary, you guys that are here for a long time forget how is it for the new players, most of them are so lost they don't even bother to play as it really needs a lot of "foruming" so to say.
Thinking about it now and checking in tutorials section, there could be a nooby guide with a few most basic things to help out people, like technology spreadsheet, trade spreadsheet, rules and some other stuff like restart command, givecash and so on. Like quick start guide to discovery, maybe even add it to the cargo hold, that would be great:)
that was just what came to my mind, but the thing is a quick start guide would be great to have, so that people get interested in discovery more easily:)although it is a rp server
I'm against /restart as it is already. I like the hard way, the traditional way. Where as you progress and explore as an indie you learn more about the lore also how to RP properly. /restart defeats the purpose as it automatically puts you in a position where you can join a faction instantly.
On a side note, you should be able to choose where you start. Penn is really getting lame.

well thats basicly what I was suggesting.
You choose were you start.
Hell, put the nub system in rhinland for a while.
Or better yet, rotate the nub system from place to place occasionly, or make hte 4 house capitals be four places for a random starting location.
' Wrote:I don't know about Bastille... I mean, consider how many people we'd get coming to the forums and making topics like "wtf why i cant leav bastil sistem?" New players need a way to get out and interact with others. Now, I know that the point of this is to force people into /restarting, but consider how many people don't know about that command. They sit in Bastille cursing at the server or something.
Actually.... I'm quite certain that FLHook has a little bit in it for a Welcome Message, as in a message that is displayed each and every time you log in. My point in bringing that up must also be combined with the "Disinterested Characters" part of FLHook. Combine these two into something that goes a little bit like:
Player A: *Logs In*
Server: "Hmm, you have less than 10 minutes of play-time, lets send you the 'New-Player Welcome Message"
Welcome Message: "Welcome to Discovery GC, use /restart to begin your journey through time and space..."
Player A: /restart
Command Help: "Use: /restart Liberty, Rheinland, Kusari, Gallia, blah blah"
Player A: /restart Liberty
Player A: *poof*
-next day, after gaining over 10 minutes of play-time-
Player A: *Logs In*
Server: "Ah, your over 10 minutes of play-time now, lets send you the 'Regular Welcome Message' instead"
Welcome Message: "Welcome to Discovery GC, Follow the rules or Cannon will summon Del who will summon Xoria who will summon Kuraine who will summon Joe who will summon Hoodlum who will summon Banhammer"
Well, you get the picture...

Meh, the thing is, you still have to learn the lore and how to RP it properly. You cant just go "/restart Corsair" "EY THERE!! IMMA CHARGIN MA UTENSILS... immagonna eat you!"
Maybe when you use /restart, there should be an extra commodity in your hold that tells you about the house/area/diplomacy etc? With a detailed description of each NPC organisation in that house..

@Raisu:
Yep, there is a section in the message plugin's ini file for the banner that shows when you log on.
And about your theory on how it works... That's not the case, because as soon as you use /restart, it overwrites your character file with new information - including time logged on, which means it would think it's a new character.
