So I remembered playing Freelancer way-back-when in my earlier years (some friends and I used to play on a modded server at LAN's) and I thought to myself: "Whatever became of the Freelancer I loved so much?"
Now (much older and only partially wiser) I've decided to download Freelancer Vanilla and start playing again, if not for the nostalgia, then for the not-too-stressful Single Player campaign.
After some time spent YouTubing for Freelancer videos, I came across some RP videos for Freelancer: Discovery. Baring in mind that other space-based multiplayer games are far too complex for me to play casually, I figured that the Discovery mod will be the best bet for me to immerse myself in. I'm fairly new to RPing, but I'm really interested in trying it out.
Now I'm spending some time playing the Single Player campaign to reacquaint myself with the gameplay, trading, equipment options and exploration - but I hope to join in on what looks like a great mod!
Welcome to Discovery! I hope you'll have plenty of hours of fun here. Most of us are trapped here with tenthousands of ingame hours and stupid amounts of time on the forum. In fact, send help.
Seriously.
If you have any questions, don't hold back and just shoot. Either in the shoutbox here on forum or make a thread and just ask ahead. Most people are hopefully helpful. Alternatively, you can also check out the official DramaDiscoveryGC RP24/7 Discord. One tip ahead, though: The less you know the people behind the characters ingame, the better the RP experience will be. You're literally at the best moment of discovering the wonders and subcultures of this game and mod. Take your time and enjoy!
I've been browsing the forum to get a feel for the mod and some of its complexities and in-game mechanics; admittedly I'm more impressed than anything that so much can come out of a game mod! Kudos to the community - I am in awe!
While this is undoubtedly "just a game", playing other competitive multiplayer games have me searching for an 'in-game-seriousness' they just cant provide. I feel like this might be it.
I plan on starting out in a mining/trading role [insert audible sigh here] but will soon venture out into something more exciting once I feel more confident and comfortable with my RP skills and play style!
