If the Junkers were the spys they wouldn't need to go into the far reaches of space, the French are primarily concerned with getting revenge on the HOUSE(s) that betrayed them.

And I believe there is a line of ships made by the Junkers...well, sorta ripped off an unknown design, but adapted and built by the Junkers. They do more then we think...

While all the other factions have this clear origin, I don't think the Junkers have one.

They are very low-profile and they clean (search?) other people's junk.

but - it could dent ppls roleplay quite some if the junkers were turning out to be spies. - junkers love to RP their low profile. - something that wouldn t be possible anymore then. - a lot of people were forced to either - take up the fight or the bigger politics or abandon that faction.

the only faction that could easily cope with that would be the BHG ( a funny origin if you ask me, too ) - a seperatist faction within a faction of liberty - setup by professional hunters that have contacts up to the higher levels of each house ( again - less in kusari ). they even take an interest in the omicrons, have a surprisingly great wealth ( is that really all only gathered by doing contracts? ) - and knowledge that is equal to the houses if not greater when it comes to warships - ( tiny battleship, the best battlecruiser, not to mention their very own shipline from the start of vanilla - something only major factions have.... not even the outcasts had that )

they could easily survive a big blow when their cover is off, cause they are numerous and strong. - if the houses turned against the junkers. they wouldn t last too long. - so when it comes to surviving the wrath of the houses for being spied upon - i believe out of the three ( zoners, junkers, BHG ) only the zoners and BHG could come out OK - and the zoners would take massive damage from a joint attack on their freeports. - the BHG however ... they have a fleet that might make the houses "think again" ( and i don t mean the playerships - but the sheed presence of the NPC BHGs everywhere - they are everywhere and they are at least as numerous as the police sometimes ) - still - ppl refer to them as annoying - but hardly ever as a threat .... not a bad cover.

furthermore - it goes well with the playermade history of the BHG. the BHG started out as being accepted and integrated everywhere but kusari ( vanilla ) - but turned out to be at the most ..... endured nowadays. they are considered by playerfactions to be allmost as hostile as pirates. - and if they were allowed to fire on the BHG, they sometimes would do it. - thats a good soil for becoming traitors in a large scale.

edit: not a day passes that someone writes "BHG whores in capships" - igiss could turn those attitudes into roleplay - give it reason - and finally turn the hostility that the BHG endures into a RP element. - it would fit in.... sort of.

Let me think... based on the Q&A, there are 3 criteria:

Intelligence work

Anglo-saxon origin of the members

And a base of operations in Liberty and Bretonia.

Let's sum up who fulfills these.... who has bases in both houses which are darn old?

IMG and planetform (IMG - Dublin, Newcastle, Cambridge and Magellan, PF - California and all around Bretonia). I am not sure any of them could do intel work, but IMG sure is spread around. Lane hackers could. And they show up both all over Liberty as well as Manchester.

Not that I want to convince anyone, but still it think it's IMG. Look at them - they have Java, which is close to Orkney, they have South Shields, which is the closest non-house base to the only good place where a jumphole could be hidden. Look at the ancient minefields in Newcastle. Those to the south are too thin to hide a jumphole properly, scanners pierce them entirely. Those near the nomad city on the other hand... Thye are round, big and surrounded by a blue nebula. (Unless there's going to be a new field somewhere else in the syetm). Problem is: IMG has a quite clear origin. Former BMM employees, but maybe the whole rebellion was an arranged intelligence operation? History knows much more twisted intel ops. One more curious matter... Don't remember where exactly, but either on Java or Falkland the bartender's name is Henri Beauchamp:crazy:

Why could it be planetform? Founded in Bretonia, a corporation (quite rich), terraforming does require a lot of know-how and they are close to the government. Inconspicous? Possibly. Thay are just those harmless world makers...

Why lane hackers? Technology. They are natural spies. Maybe they are inconspicous because they actually don't hide what they are doing? They rarely go into combat and let the rogue thugs do the dirtywork. One thing bothers me though. If it would be the hackers, the Outcasts would get yet another powerful ally. Moar for Malta? Moar? as if they didn't have enough. RP balance would suffer badly. And i doubt Igiss would want that.

If those would be zoners, then a few of the statements wouldn't apply - first the Anglo-saxon origin, because zoners are a mix from every part of Sirius. Operations in Liberty and Bretonia? Well, the only Liberty freeport is in Magellan and is run by the IMG now. Formerly zoner, so might be it. Intelligence? Zoners are very inconspicous. Spread all over Sirius, present in every corner. Good to monitor the global situation, isn't it?

Why junkers? Sure, they do have shadowy dealings, they have their bases in Bretonia (trafalgar) and Liberty (Beaumont/Rochester), but it is not clear wether they are of Anglo-Saxon origin or not. But it might be it too. The first junker bases were built where junk first appeared and that is the flithy Bretonian space around the shipyard in New London. Liberty could be second. They expanded into Rheinland after the 80 years war. They'd be good at intel work, cuz of their necessary contacts high up in the law enforcement. They need to know people in order to be left in peace.

Why not BHG? Well, the guild was set up in Texas, later moved on to Bretonia. Now they are all over. Their ship line looks kinda fishy. Intel work? Doubt it. They are hired guns, not connected to anything too important. But their omnipresence and numbers are an advantage. And intel work is pretty much similar to what they are doing - tailing people, sending info to the central... Intel gathering would look to simple members as yet another contract.

The BHG are a bit too disorganized to effectivly use as a spy network. although liasoning with individual memebers for specific information would work.
