I agree with Jinx, an excellent Idea, nerf the strafing ability of bombers... they don't need it to kill Caps and fighters need the advantage against them wherever we can provide it...

No, that's going the wrong way. If you nerf bomber strafe, they are dead meat against capships cause they have no way to strafe their gunfire. Without strafe my Thor would be dead in the space of a few seconds, even in asteroids and that is a fact, if you remove that from bombers then caps are unbeatable by small craft once again. What you need to do is nerf bomber turning and up the strafe. Or at least eliminate the so called "big bombers" from the mod and replace them with something that is usable, because right now they simply aren't. They need at the very least what I proposed and hopefully a smaller hitbox to go with them.
Turning is the real factor in fighter-vs-fighter combat. The troubles with the Catamarans and the Bounty Hunter Bomber are that they can turn like VHFs. Not because of their strafe.
If a Bomber can't turn as fast, it'll be open to fighter fire in jousting fights for longer. That could give the fighter enough time to destroy it, before it manages to bring its weapons into a good position.
The Thor and the Rogue bomber are a bit of an exception. We pulled a thor up the the Varyag just for a size compairison and it is actually is significantly BIGGER then the whole superstructure. It was a joke at first but when we saw that it was a little disappointing. The Hessian line is getting a small size decrease, but I am not sure that will be enough for it.
There are a few ships that could use a frieghter shield, including the SHFs.
I say cudos to the guys who still fly them (Thor, Rogue Bomber) even though they are very killable.
Well I made it a point of flying it at least until next version so I can check the changes. If the Thor is still as bad then as it is now, then I will have to advise RHA to change their bombers to Falcatas. Sorry, but with the capswarm we face in New Berlin flying a severely underpowered bomber against capships that most of the time mount corsair and BHG equipment mixed together and show up in numbers of two or more doesn't really do much except frustrate us.
The Thor is useless at the moment, so is the Barghest. Both need a heavy buff in the strafing and power department. If it's gonna be big, it should at least be able to strafe properly so that it's hard to control but not underpowered. FL is unfortunately a game where agility and hitbox size is the defining factor of a ships survivability, not armour. Especially against capships.
As most people know , I'm probly the last person in this server who would want to see bombers , any bombers , get anything. But Blodo has a point here , that ship is particulary useless and pathetic. I don't see it fighting on par with the enemies of the Hessians / Bounty Hunters , Corsairs and Rhainland lawfulls. Each and everyone of the mentioned factions has stronger and better bombers then the Thor. I have also flown the LR one , wich is in even worse situation then the Thor , not to mention that the LR use it in the most over-cap-spammed system of all - New York.
actually I believe bombers are just fine.
They should attack capships in bigger numbers with fighter or two as escort and those fighters should offer some distraction while you pummel his hull down.
remember, bomber costs around 30mil, fighters are 20 and a capship is waay more than that.
Basically, they should not be manouverable alot, just enough to reach the ship two times in a row.
Ivan , we are not discussing how uber the bombers are. I totaly agree with you that the bomber is the number one type of ship wich is being whored.
This topic is for balance of bombers wich are actually useless. The LR and the RH ones , those ships are almost useless against caps and useless against fighters (wich bombers should actually be). The reason they are so bad is that there hitboxes don't mach and there size is HUGE compared to other bombers.
I think bombers are fine as well in the most part some obviously need a slight agility decrease and some a significant boost of some sort but in general they are ok.
Fighters generally will win against them but it comes down to piloting as it should in most cases.
