How gay. This type of crap exist ALL over the internet. Youtube, forums, multilplayer. I've been a victim of this many times in the past all over. It's just the fact that most people here seem to forget the first time they got they're asses handed to them, or the 50 times they got blown up by level 8 npcs. Didn't know what was what didn't know what "RP" meant. Whether it be faded memory or acquired conceit and arrogance it may also it's the fact of being masked on the internet prevents them from being punished (fully at least). Since I've learned years ago that elitism or being a ass to people in general doesn't pay I do my best to keep others in good spirits. If that fails me I think of that image where I was tractoring in loot from a wreck in my startracker.

After sitting in New York. For a wile. I witnessed a brand new member comming on and asking for some advice. Now this person has never in his life played Freelancer never mind Discovery. And all he got in reply was this is Discovery discover<< Bloddy hell get some new material please. And there were some other what i would call NASTY!! replys. So i deside to hell with it. Ill help him out. I payed for a train and told him ill show you a Trade ruite. Use the time trading to leearn the way RP works here and learn the ropes of the server. So after trailing about everywere getting his gear setup i take him to kyushu. An easy run for a new member. Now im using my [Merc]MindGame char. Because all my other chars are unlawfull and my trader is full with NovaPGs credits and cargo. So upon entering Kyushu i am confronted yet again. This time its me hes interested in. I explain whats going on to him. That this member is brand new to the game. Hell he didnt even know how to dock with a JG. And asked if he could let me escort him this run and he wouldnt see me again. But no this is the kind of response you get



Now please we need to be a bit more considerate. Not everyone that logs on is clued up on everything that goes on here. Also remember not all of us are adults. Or members of higher learning. We are not all born with a gift to play FL also. Please try and help a little bit more often.

And yes i was in group with RoS at the point of this SS. But not when the events occured. Lohingren logged on to help with the trade ruite since i dont do the quick ones i like the full loops of sirius. To complicated for somone so new to the game.

And another note. The KNF pilot is just an example. He wanst the worst of it. He just happened to get the screen shot treatment. Cause at this point i was angry. He was doing his job. But i feal there should be moments when we can look beyond RP and see the bigger picture.

I think you were alittle too sensitive on this KNF guy? He might of just wanted you two to RP a inspection. That would be fair.

Anyway, the point of your thread, be nice to new bees or dont say anything at all.

The KNF told me i was in no way to enter NT. And like i said. I wasnt making a dig at him. But threataning to put a trader on KoS list because i was showing him what to do isnt RP. He had absolutly no reason to be on anyones KoS list. And dont try and explain it away with RP. Its just plain ignorance. Towards new members.

I explained to him the situation in PM. He chose to continue to threaten telling me as a Merc i had no RP reason to be with the trader. Em so a merc cant be hired for escort by a trader? I said also that i wasnt here for RP purposes. Explaining as soon as i show him the ruite i wouldnt even be returning to Kusari. Now thats were you would usually expect a bit of morality.

I have an 8yr old son who is high functioning autistic. What this means is he is mostly like any other 8yr old but he has some issues. The group i play with has been together for most of 5 yrs playing BlackHawk down and other games we even own our own servers for the FPS games we play. Since my son was 5 this group has taken him under their wing and made him one of us and he has responded by becoming a good FPS player. I think it has been a good thing for our group because in the servers we run you will never find our members giving a new player a hard time just because they are new. In fact our guys and gals try to be helpful and answer questions, give pointers on play and in general be nice to people. We have rules of conduct that if they are not followed can get a member suspended or even booted from the squad. We also make non members who play in our servers follow those same rules and if they do not we show them the door and either they straighten up and play nice or they get a ban and are no longer a problem. We are currently ranked as one of the top 3 servers for BHD and for almost a year and a half we were ranked number 1. BHD is an old game that has been mostly forgotten by NovaLogic who made it. We run a 50 player server not that big for FL but max size for BHD and it is mostly full most of the time. The point i am trying to make here is you can have fun without being an ass.

Now we are playing FL and having a great time. Most of those we have met are decent people who are willing to help out new players. My son like most 8yr olds wants to be a part of anything we do as a group so we try to include him. So far it has gone well with only a minor incident where he fired on a fellow outcast player and we had to explain what was up with him.
Now usually he runs a mission or two with some of us and is done for a while (short attention span) But he does
Have a wonderful imagination and we hope that playing an RP game will help him learn to interact with others better as well as having some fun. He has played D&D with us and has done ok. The problem is he types very slowly and is still learning the controls and how to interact with other players as well as who it is ok to blast and who it is bad to blast. He goes by Dragon_Face and plays as an outcast saber pilot so if you see him say hello and remember not all players are as fortunate as some of you are. He will learn given time and the opportunity and we try to insure he plays only when one of our group is on to help coach him along.

To silent:Yeah I guess. But maybe he figured you where trying to sneak in using that as an excuse. Maybe he didn't pay attention to the kid's level.

I saw puck on his angels char today, but that is the first time I have seen an angel on in 2 or 3 weeks (it could just be because im not in newyork ALL the time, but i am there quite a bit)
Maybe its time to add a few more angels to the fleet?

Im a n00b to this server, but not to the game, so its the role play that im new to.

I remember an occasion when i was xeno farming in colorado to fix my rep, and was proud of my lovely mammoth. A Xeno tagged player ship pops up and sits there for 5 mins, just scanning me, and i think 'ooo, this is the first time ive been caught by a pirate, is he gonna ask me for money (i had) or cargo?' (silver is free, no biggie), but then he blows me into a million tiny pieces (i was level 32 or something, which you can reach in a matter of hours, without RPing at all) without saying a word.
i was mad as all hell, not understanding the difference btn the RP allowances for terrorists and pirates, and gave him an earful (if your reading this - sorry).

with hindsight, it was clearly me that was in the wrong place at the wrong time, and then in the wrong afterwards for blowing up at him (he probably couldn't believe his eyes that i was just sitting outside the ouray base, popping the xeno starfleas as they came out!), and it actually made me go and read Xoria's post on 'everything a newbie should know', and now, slightly more clued up, im really careful about which system contains which tags.

a little //oorp before the explosive decompression woulda helped a lot though. afterwards i was too damn mad, cos i thought he was a pirate that had strayed beyond the RP boundaries, and pointing out that '//no, actually i AM allowed to do this' made me madder, cos then it was me that was the goofball... so, err, sorry again...:$

the point of this all is that ive seen the ANGELs tag listed, but i thought that they were extinct or something, as i've never seen one.

Suggestion:
giving new players money is no help. If you give a man a fish, he will eat for a day, but if you teach him to fish, <strike>he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day</strike> he will eat everyday.
giving experience helps a lot more, but it's impossible and unfair on one group to say: you're not allowed to play, you're on Newb patrol.
making it a punishment detail is counter-productive - it'd be like trying to get helpful advice from the sullen teenager behind the shop counter.
Lets make it a money thang
- if you help a noob with a trade run, list the help given on an 'unofficial angels' thread, and ask the noob to confirm the help given on same thread, then the angels can pay ya for helping them to usher new players around - and today's new player is tomorrows faction leader.

Wouldn't expect to see such sort of behaviour from the KNF to be honest.

I agree in last few week's it seem's people are becoming more, and more unfriendly.
I have helped noob's set up their tag's/help with a little cash, and enter any question's i can.
I swear if i see people being rude,or killing a noob, i may just find a char that has an RP reason to blow them to hell.
Rude people really push my button's.
