well - as a carrier, it is the only ship that has really no need to fly into an asteroid field. - it is not much bigger than the current carrier at all. and is much much much easier to fly than a rheinland battleship or a kusari BB. ( but comparable to a nomad BB or a spyglass when it comes to control the tail of the ship )
scaling is smaller doesn t look good when you see a fighter nearby - cause the fighter is supposed to launch from it and land in its tubes it has to have a certain size.
right now, we have .... two or so carriers on the server? - it won t be used too much anyway - and those that use it will have to focus on RPing its role. its not an assault warship... when you chase someone into asteroids, you d have to take an assault frigate, which is MUCH smaller and thinner.
but i do see the problem with such a size - such a ship will not be too popular, no matter what... even with 2 more activated turrets, it won t be one of the most successful ships when it comes to attacking, but on defense missions, it should be good.
my suggestion would be:
- 20k more armour than the current carrier
- 2 more turrets ( no powerplant increase though ) ( the next 2 turrets are located on its sides with a side only arc )
but it would be up to the factions affected if they think its OK to improve the ship. - it has tremendous firepower already - and liberty is unlikely to be caught unprepared. when bombers are coming, liberty has enough fighters to counter them - and if that ship is too tough, it could overpower every unlawful warship unless they come in unreasonable force.
at first i wondered about that, too. ( xing sent me the model + his skinfiles ) - but then... the osiris is darker, too. - its more a dark, satin grey than a shiny silvery metal. - the dreadnaught is not cloakable - and does not possess the technology to offer a small radar image.
the osiris on the other hand is not only supposed to be totally cloakable, but also offers reduced image when not cloaked.
the carrier, as i understand it is / was a further project of libery. it combines the need of a flagship with the technology to cloak and offer a small image on enemy radars. - its hull is rather that of the osiris than that of the dreadnaught - so its darker.
but its still strange. - when you fly that thing through liberty, it looks as if someone tried to hide an elephant in a crowded street. - that ship is so big, .. ( and visible from westpoint when it is actually in manhatten orbit ) - that offering a small image on the radar is like totally pointless.
but its cloakable, too - ( in RP ) - it has those little arcs on its back.... well. it looks libertyish - but yes, it stands out when next to the rest of the liberty fleet. ( but then, i don t think there ll be many of those )
Jinx I wish to know , why you where so much against equiping the Order's Carrier with a Cloaking devise ?
Your arguments where that the Carrier class is simply too big and massive to be effectivly cloaked and yet you agree with equiping a cloaking device on a ship with such mass ?
@Eternal: the reason for that is as profane as simple. - the order carrier was my project, - my concept. - this liberty carrier is xing concept and his project. - i am only posting that here, cause he asked me to finish his work ( converting and hardpointing and OpenSP testing )
all that is about the ship is entirely up to xing.
and yea - the reasons for me not giving the order carrier a roleplayed cloak was this:
the major part of the osiris was removed ( the cloaking mechanism ) to make room for hangars and carrier equipment. - a simple trade-off. - i mean - both, the cloaking mechanism and the carrier feature are both roleplayed. - in my case, the most important thing was to justify having a very compact ship capable of functioning as a carrier. - Xing on the other hand has made a carrier that does not care for dimensions.
this carrier is like 4 times bigger than the order carrier ( in case it is put into the game anyway ) - it is a flagship to be seen, no matter if its cloakable - but its HUGE. - for the order, - i thought - it was more important to have a smaller ship than squeezing everything into one ship.
of course, that is all just guesswork - for we do not know how much room a cloaking equipment takes up. - maybe its just as big as a little box... who knows...
very nice work Jinx. love it. And I agree with upping up the stats somewhat, with that size it will be the easiest to hit thing in Sirius for sure...
As to Eternal - among other thing, Jinx' carrier doesn't have the cloak "arches" as I call them. Mine have one set for the body, and one for each launch pods. The Order carrier is compact - and if I might say, reminds me of the japanese carrier concept, where they sort of converted a battleship into a carrier by strapping an airfield on it.
This carrier doesn't care for size, and is made to operate in open space - for all that matter, battleships arent exactly made for TL anyway... As such, it can reach immensities and have enough place to store all the electronic equipment needed.
The darker skin is due to the fact it is a very modern vessel. As Jinx pretty much explained, the Osiris was the newest prototype and as such, had darker skins. Same goes for the Anubis, which is in fact an upgrade of a Liberty Defender (strangely though to me it looks more like a downgrade because the high tech looking wings were replaced with quite conventionnal ones...).
hehe roleplaying in that thing would be awesome, even though I personally doubt I would purchase one. I would love seeing someone driving one for sure though.
