I assume Synth is mostly petrochemicals processed to reveal nutrients, and then flavored artificially...Sooo, its some sort of very hardy plant which produces some form of tar or oil in large quantities.
It tastes like almost anything, and can probably be molded to any shape as well. Texture would be a problem...higher end pastes would need additives to change the textures.
The ingredients and manufacturing of our fine product is kept strictly a secret. Now, you ask yourself why the secrecy? I will tell you. The taste and nutrition of our fine product is so great that we know our prisone.. err workers would be in trouble from you hungry enthusiast had you known where we keep it and make it.
So, just out of concern for our valued employees, stop asking questions!
Sincerely
SGTMatt of the Synth Security Division
A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship.

' Wrote:The only place in Kusari where synthpaste is produced is Deshima Station in Shikoku.
And just to point out, there is nowhere in Kusari where synthpaste is consumed
Then explain this infocard data, or are you just roleplaying in my ooc thread?:P
Quote:Kyushu is often referred to as the Samura company planet within Kusari, as so many of its inhabitants depend on Samuras continued largess. As part of an effort to stimulate rice production on Kyushu, Samura gradually organized the Kyushu farmers into cooperatives that would buy Fertilizer and customized seeds from their laboratories in New Tokyo. Consumers paid exorbitant amounts for the rice produced, which everyone swore was much higher quality than that produced in any other part of Kusari, and thus worth the premium price it fetched in Samuras Tokyo supermarkets.
With the eventual introduction of Trade Lanes, Kusari farmers were opened to competition with the rest of the Sirius Sector. They lobbied the government heavily, financed with Samura money, which had the most to lose from cheaper foreign competitors. The government acquiesced for several centuries, leading to astronomical Kusari Food prices.
Eventually, under pressure from the Liberty government, Kusari reopened the agricultural imports market, despite intense lobbying by Samura.
Synth Foods moved in and became an overnight success, opening franchises in the urban areas of Honshu and New Tokyo. Demand for expensive Kyushu Food dropped, and many independent farmers were forced out of business. Feeling betrayed, some of the farmers proceeded to organize the Farmers Alliance, a militant group that lobbies for "farmers' rights" -- which include such things as government subsidies and restrictions on the sale of foreign foods in Kusari. In fact, the Farmers Alliance generally is opposed to foreign influence of any kind, particularly the Trade Lanes that have so damaged their livelihoods.

As my esteemed colleague Simon Black quoted about Planet Los Angles: ... The planet's popularity has resurged with the economic windfall generated by Synth Foods. Synth Foods has perfected an engineered plant matter that can flourish in harsh environments and then processed into Synth Paste.
In addition:
Excerpt from a rumor on Stuttgart: Look as far as you can in any direction and only the gray Synth Foods plants are seen spilling their way to the edges of the land.
And another: Synth Foods cellulose plant was bred to survive in less than perfect growing conditions--
--. They changed a garden planet capable of growing the most exotic and delicate flora into a factory for their tasteless weed.
Clearly Los Angles and Stuttgart are the primary growing places for the cellulose plant that is the primary ingredient of Synth Paste.
It is my feeling (coming from the standpoint of RPing a Synth Foods employee for several months) that Synth Paste is not only produced as a basic Food Ration but also as a Luxury Food as well (depending on what additional ingredients are used in each mixture.)
In reference to Xorias quote: Synth Foods moved in and became an overnight success, opening franchises in the urban areas of Honshu and New Tokyo.
My interpretation of this is that while Synth Foods has opened sales locations in Kusari the paste is imported to those sales points from Liberty.

In character statement:
As a Senior Executive for Synth Foods Inc I have toured the processing centers and I can guarantee that Soylent Green is not currently one of the ingredients in any of our products.
I wonder what happened to McDonalds? I would think at least one of their hundred million employees would make it onto at least one of the sleeper barges.

Yes, I am just RP'ing in your OOC thread....bad me, too much RP, got to stop doing that. But seriously, In Kusari, I think NT is the only planet that would consume synth Paste. Kyushu is the home to most of the Farmers movement, and it would be heresy to use synthpaste there. Honshu and Juyno are both water planet, more suited for producing seafood. NT on the other hand has the most cosmopolitan, and youngest population in Kusari, it is also orbited by Roppongi station, which is run by Liberty Corporations, to bring their influence into Kusari.
It was kind of over, but people gave me some ideas to think on.
' Wrote:Food Rations should just be renamed to Synth Paste, I reckon. In any case, Los Angeles should sell it primarily, although I reckon the best selling locations in other houses should be each Interspace Commerce station, with the supplies being distributed from there.
Planet Crete should perhaps be the best selling point for Synth Paste, what with their starvation problems.
Interspace stations may be a good idea having in mind that paste is distributed from there. Ropponogi in New Tokyo, Waterloo in New London, Newark in New York, Bonn in New Berlin (although price here would be low since huge farmlands are on Stuttgart, same goes to Liberty).
Sure Corsairs could have a high price for paste as they have for every kind of food, but how would one take paste to them is beyond me. Dozens of system to cross, authorities to bribe to let you pass for some paste trade sounds silly. Although, if so, then I think Golden Chrysantemums at Ainu should buy Synth Paste at high price too. Them being liberal and all. May want to 'have a taste of Liberty' for themselves. Shiny packages, great tastes. It may be popular among them, although stuff like that is the bad side of free market. Products get manipulated.
Its something similiar to east europeans liking fast food and chips when they first arrived on market.
