Wouldn't making sci-data guns expensive corrupt certain ships such as BS with CAU8 & BS Scanner & More?

It is possible to make the guns cost a lot but be nearly worthless when sold back to NPCs, which removes the issue of corruption.

There are a few ways of doing it, the obvious one is to make a POB in Conn that sells the guns for whatever price, their actual value can be dirt when other NPCs are concerned. There is another way that I cannot explain but GMs say works.

if I remember right, price for stuff in bases is done through
Base price * NPC station multiplyer

through having very low "base price" and super high "npc station multiplier" it would be possible to have super expensive guns without corruption of data (we can go even up to 2 billion credits cost for one gun then)

If I remember it right though. I checked those things months ago

P.S. I would not mind seeing all gun prices left as they are. just with adding sci data being bought for 4-5mils credits.

As in a normal economy, things are only worth what people/an individual are/is willing to pay.

Obviously, at the moment, people are willing to pay these obscene prices for some guns that may/may not be better than the normal ones.

At one time people were willing to pay 6+ million for 1 SD. The price is now hovering around the 3 million mark.

People are willing to pay 400 - 600 million so they can have a pretty engine, each to their own.

A Van Gogh painting went for $81 million, I wouldn't pay $80 for one.

As for putting them on wrecks, that just makes it so that people can get them every time the Server restarts, with minimal effort.

EDIT: No-one is forcing anybody to buy them.

If you try to sell these to the NPCs, you will get somewhere in the region of 10-30 million for the guns.

This is what the Server 'sees' as their worth.

Hence why Ships don't get corrupted.

Just do a /value command whilst on your ship to see your whole worth.

Thing is, these guns actually can give an upper hand in cap pvp and maybe even snub pvp to an extent, and due to how scarce they are and how much stupid grinding is required for data, I can completely see why people want to buy it now.

Sci data needs to go, or at least keep sci data only for cosmetic goodies. Please just make these weapons cost credits and make them cost less so everyone can use them. If you are afraid of everyone having the guns, then there's your problem; they're not balanced and had favoured those who have more time to waste grinding.

Are you shitting me, here? This argument would barely be valid even if they were identical to some other weapons that you can buy for 2 million except for the visual and sound effects. Moneysinks are fine but forcing people to grind for 99999999999 years to be able to use some new toys is just bad game design.

The items have been around for nearly 4 years now.

The price of them were even more obscene when SD was going for 6 million a time.

I think you will find it more than just a 'few', seeing as it is now up to 69 billion worth of items now sold.

If you look at my last post, you will see that I said things are only worth what people are willing to pay.

Those that are willing to 'work' to get their money to spend on these items, then I say good luck to them. If you do not want to not work for them (other than 'I go shoot a wreck'), then that is your prerogative.

I, myself, believe that they are not worth the money, but it would appear there are plenty that disagree with me as they have bought them. Even though I can afford them, I have not bought one and have no intention to do so.

Go back a few years, people would have to grind for their CAUVIIIs and BS Scanners. It was the 'rich' in those days who had them, now every man and his dog has multiples, even to the extent they appeared on Fighters (now it is another Scanner that costs the same).

Most of the people are not willing to pay that. They are forced to pay that to stay competetive in PvP. espacially with cruisers. There is no reason to fight a sci data cruiser with a non-sci data cruiser. Not for the average player. You can even demolish cap aces with little effort using those guns.
