After the events that led to the collapse of the Coronado jumphole, and having also lost its passage to the Rousillion and Newcastle systems, Baffin became isolated from Sirius, only retaining it's connection to Tau 29.

This had terrible consequences for the Temporary Autonomous Zoners, as pilgrimage to the holy system dwindled. The lack of visitors, as well as traders, put the whole economy at risk, so the Church of Eris Esoteric decided to make plans to revert this.

It was then that the idea of creating the Autonomous Republic of Fernando Poo emerged. Having a settlement in Tau 29 would let the Temporary Autonomous Zoners connect Baffin with the rest of the Sirian economy.
