The only reason I extended it from the time of the request to the duration was for my own sake. The last two hours of the event is 12:00 am - 2:00 am for me. I couldn't arrange my affairs to be around that time to setup everything that needed to happen during those hours. If anyone wants to blame someone for the lack of RP this has devolved into, blame me. If anyone has issues with NY being shredded, blame me. It was a request from several players, but I pulled the trigger on it. I'm willing to accept whatever frustration/consequences that come my way.
Why not just have the no respawn part take place today in a few hours during peak hours for say, two hours or so if it was wanted? While I understand you want to take ownership of the situation, the idea of this part of it wasn't yours. I personally don't know why the last hours of the event to be made a respawn timer free part was a good idea, as the event ends at server restart when nobody is around to even enjoy it. The decision to extend it throughout Sunday so at least everyone who wants to enjoy it can is honestly better than the last hour or two when there's 8 people on the server.
Perhaps just take these considerations for next event. Even with the scuffed nature of this, there are some having fun (myself included) with what we got.

Passive aggressive commentary over an event that has now lost all semblance of its initially intended purpose, which was to be a high risk and high reward scenario with plenty of competition from both sides of the law. I can't help but notice how a vast majority of that risk is now gone and instead replaced with the outright slapstick comedy that will be a Connecticut-esque free for all outside Manhattan. Suspending the entirety of all the roleplay for a vague notion of fun, has in fact killed most of the things that would have appealed to the kind of people that play this game. The roleplay is what makes it fun, that's the entire point of this server. It's now taken a backseat at best, and outright been shelved at worst. I'm genuinely confused as to how this was signed off on by the administration, since the event seemed to have a clear premise to begin with. This was supposed to be a competition, I suppose none of that matters now.

Yeah no *****, then why did we have so much no respawn timer periods events then? And why, STRANGELY ENOUGH, these were fun? Stop being a bitter vet for once. Please read the following...
Who knows. Every single respawn event thats ever been done has been terrible and if you can't see why there is absolutely zero reason for me to bother explaining it to you.

Stop being a doomer. Some were bad, but there were good ones too. Like the GRN ones, the Outcast v CR ones, LN v GRN, were very memorable ones.
Time, place and context all matters for these types of events.

the primary reason ive logged on discovery for 15 years is for the pvp
roleplay was just a nice addition to it
if i wanted to roleplay and type words at people full time i'd do it somewhere not as restrictive as a game server with open PVP, such as on the forums, or on discord where i do most of my RP.
events that encourage you to not roleplay (cash rewards) by speed docking or cloaking up to dock points or otherwise having your friends log 5 other factions normally hostile to each other to try and kill someone preventing you from making 200million an hour will never have RP potential

Why do you care honestly - just don't come if you don't like them - what is the issue here?
Orkney was fun too recently, many people came on very short notice - you can organize roleplay events yourself actually to get something that works for you better! Lead by example
Right now it's just pew event with here and there a freighter flying rather than it being an event that focuses on the smuggle aspect which I thought was the whole point so we can iron out the Planet Landing Zones and freighter routes.

There are people that wants to play Freelancer as a game. Others use Freelancer as a platform to write stories, and both views are valid. I don't see how the event is prejudicial to the game. it's entirely optional, opt-in.
You can have roleplaying with game elements, or a game with roleplaying elements. Both can coexist but one element will prevail over the other. The event, with leaderboards, points and teams, points towards a game, a competitive one. deep roleplaying isn't to be expected. This is an exception, not the rule.
Alternatively, why don't you come up with ideas towards roleplaying events, if that is what you want?

This is a great idea tbh. Why not give out rewards for top ingame RPers+Forum stories instead of wanting to deny people fun in awesome events like these? That forum story writing event was cool and popular for example

This event has no rp consequences as said in the OP, its just meant to make money, get some blues and have fun.
