It has come to mine and the gunnery crew's attention that the Akhetaten, although not underperfoming by any means, could use some improvements in the armament side of her specifications. While the large power cores of the rest of Liberty's warships compliment the high energy demand and high damage output of the Collapsers, it has became apparent after years of live combat that the same weaponry puts an excruciating load on the Akhetaten's lighter power core. The result of the increased load on the Akhetaten's reactor has been on some occasions decreased performance of the reactor while on other occasions it has lead to total failure of the reactor.

Various checks that were done on the Akhetaten during our last prolonged stay at Juneau Shipyard indicated that the battleship's reactor is not designed to handle such heavy weaponry and that an alternative form of armament needs to be found before the reactor is in need of replacement due to overload.

In addition to the aforementioned problems, the engineers that handled the repairs and maintenance of the Akhetaten a few days ago noted another change that might be necessary, this one regarding our Meson flak turrets and possible replacements to them that are far more effective and put much less of a load to the reactor when fired.

It is here where you come in, Director. I do not have the technical knowledge needed to provide a solution to the problems.

Your request is most disturbing in nature. Under normal circumstances a total failure of the reactor core warrants total replacement with a new reactor unit. I will have to ensure that this is handled, and if deemed necessary, the vessel pulled from action to ensure the operational safety of the vessel. Normal weapon maintenance and replacement does not typically fall under my duties, however in the case you are request advanced weaponry based off of prototypes we've used on numerous test platforms. Weapons are more energy efficient and I'll look into transferring the weaponry to your ship, however I will be monitoring the status of the Akhetaten closely, as under normal circumstances I would have already pulled the ship from duty and had the reactor replaced. For the time being, exit the battlezone to our rear echelon area and return to Norfolk Shipyard for refitting of weapons, and to take on a team of engineers to monitor the reactor 24/7.

The Akhetaten has, as of your message, arrived at Norfolk Shipyard. I have taken the liberty of viewing some blueprints of various different types of prototype weaponry and along with the opinion of the engineering and gunnery crew we have come to make a decision regarding the weaponry that shall replace our Mesons and Collapsers. The replacements we picked are as follows:

• 2x EMP Flak Turrets
  
• 3x Thumper Rapid-Fire Turrets

The EMP Flak Turrets are believed to have a reduced load on the reactor while performing with increased effectiveness compared to the standard Mesons, while the Thumper Rapid-Fire Turrets will be putting minimum stress on the reactor during engagements. Meanwhile teams of engineers have already begun checks on the reactor with all relevant reports being forwarded to you.

Do I have approval to proceed with replacement of our weaponry as per the above, Director?

Refit with the requested weapons and return to the frontline as assigned. I'll be monitoring the reports from the engineers, and if the reactors performance with the new weaponry is found insufficient, I will have the vessel withdrawn to undergo a full replacement of it's reactor, I want you to keep that in mind. Your orders remain the same for now during the Vespucci offensive.
