I'm sure i saw Karst wanting to sell his useless piece of
no good barge a while back with no joy.
Now i'm starting to understand why the Just no.
Lol. No, it's quite the other way around. I bought my only Barge after 5.0, actually. It's an incredibly useful ship for specific roles. It just isn't the all-around best powertrading ship like it was before, a role it was really never supposed to have.
If you owned a Barge pre-5.0 and are unhappy with the changes, chances are you'll find a buyer like me for it.

This has rendered some routes unserviceable, including supply routes for POBs. I recommended at the very least make the ship no-clip to offset this, but any feedback provided by the community has either been ignored or skirted. As a result, some have left the community.

I think you'd be better off arguing for and modeling a comparatively smaller transport than the Barge and getting that to still have normal cruise speed but no lane use. But anything like that would more than likely be a SRP ship.

At 200 cruise speed, the Barge would move ~3.43 times as much cargo on cruise (per "unit of time") as a 5k. This would be exceedingly broken. Unfortunately having 30,000 cargo means you need massive restrictions to not utterly break the economy. I think the Barge is in a healthy state right now, clearly having advantages (particularly a jumpdrive slot) and disadvantages, without breaking the economy. It's seeing a good bit of use but is no longer the go-to meta powertrading ship. I'd rather leave it be.
Meh I agree mostly with haste, its fine now. If they want a whole bunch of afk barges flying off lanes that’s what they’ll get I suppose. At least we can’t get interupted by stupid npcs that still exist for some reason

I'll add to your metaphor. The company that runs the factory that I'm delivering my goods to also has a rail route and they've decided to place a bridge across the only road accessing the factory. To make my drop, I have to take that road. By adding the bridge, I am no longer able to make my drop. The trucking company pleaded with the factory to not build the bridge. Or if they do, please make it a certain height so although it's still a pain in the butt, the route is still serviceable. The factory either did not respond to us or started talking about the forest that's 10 miles away.
When the trucking company said that they will take their business elsewhere, the factory said to "don't let the door hit you on the way out". I have been driving to the factory for years and it's sad to see how few trucks are delivering to the factory anymore. I suppose the door is pretty wide as to not hit us on the way out.

Your math leaves out too many variables. We've gone over this several times, here's one more time for some of our newcomers to this conversation. What you fail to consider is delays when NPCs ram the ship, trade lane disrupted, random space debris that has disrupted your approach to a lane or gate... among other things. Even without those considerations, I have found the 5K'er to be more efficient after 2-3 systems. Zentor and I both offered to make real-time runs to show this but nobody wanted to take us up on this. Next thing we know, some staff sold their barges. This isn't a good look.
It ain't about what you are capable of, it's about what you're willing to do.
