Disclaimer: I couldn't careless if the Barge does or doesn't get a boosted cruise speed (I already accepted it wouldn't).
I am not sure the couple of people who used the Barges to 'Power Trade' would really break a 'non-existent Economy'.
As for breaking the 'Economy' has anyone actually looked at the figures, for say the last 3 Trade Events' and actually worked out how many credits were pumped in to this so called 'Economy'?
The people who complain about these so called 'Power Traders' are the same ones that suddenly climb out of the woodwork, and trade non-stop, making millions (billions in the old currency) and once the Event is over, go back in to the woodwork and start complaining about those 'damn' Power Traders and how boring trading is. Then they wait for the next credit printing press Event to appear again.
'I would like to be half as clever as some people like to believe they are' Life is full of disappointments, it is how we handle them that helps to define us, as a person

Spot on, I just trade during events
The freighter one wasn't even good money - it's just usually the straightforward routes and urgency + reward potential that do it for me
Giving the barge at least a small max speed bump is needed since pain the ass NPC's can keep up with a barge at cruise without even touching their afterburners. The new changes are punitive at best.
And the reason for removing lane access since it's "intended as a deep space ship, where their aren't any lanes" is a hollow argument.
How would a barge even get to deep space with a max speed of 99 meters per second since that's literally only 10x the record human running speed?
developers when an event that prints hundreds of billions (millions now) credits in a week: i sleep
developers when someone doesnt want to feel their youth fade away in a single trade route: THAT WOULD BE INCREDIBLY OVERPOWERED
one of the first events after the credit division already printed an insane amount of money, any sense of 'economy' has been LONG gone
dont delude yourself into thinking otherwise
the fact you thought shoving the majority of the new economy into POBs was a FUN! and EXCITING! idea was bad enough

Hard agree with all of this. The highest sellpoint for the silver event was about $486 iirc. Imagine last patch if a commodity sold for $48,600 each because that's what its equivalent to, yet they are somehow worried about barge. How are they so worried about the economy when Liberty's economy is worse than vanilla. What is there to ruin really? Ah well. Cruise speed of 150 would be sweet but I don't expect it to happen. Agreed with St. Denis's similar point to Saronsens as well.
Developers, I am sorry I say this but you just ruin everything is good in this game. Everytime when a thing finally work and players are happy you just find a way to fuck it up. My humble opinion...

Let's be honest a community will always have diverging opinions and there will never be or was a time when "people" were unanimously happy on how things were.
Would be much more useful to give constructive criticism to people who actually work for this game rather then just perpetually saying "things were better before x y z".

Is kinda funny about it because well, even passing various hours in refining and doing it, let's say you start at 0, then, i was able to sell somewhere around 70K of Silver in the last event, that means lot of trips to Thunder Bay ... well, 2.3M each, 14 trips~ ... i got like 32.2M isn't that much but for a lone player well, i can do some things with such cash~
But can't imagine a Barge, at 99 impulse speed, is a Joke ... more that it can't use the Trade Lines, and usually stucked to a House (because usually Borders are filled with Rocks) ... so for commerce "In-House" is okay ....
