The Hegemon has been made quite a nuisance since the size-upgrade, for an asteroid miner it really has it's problems navigating an actual asteroid field due to size, momentum and poor maneuverability. I can understand the reduced cruising and the lack of tradelane compatibility, but since this ship is supposed to be the new hot shit in asteroid mining, a sleeker handling would have been nice. Cargo space is ok, but every turret the Hegemon equips, that are now necessary for mining too, reduces cargo space. And shields would be nice, when dealing with the Molly presence in Dublin or Leeds where the Hegemon should shine. Bigger ships have shields, so I really can't understand this decision. Last but not least it has too poor results in asteroid mining (again, for the supposed new hot shit in asteroid mining), a 3-4 times bigger yield (factoring in the slow ass time you need to get the Gold Ore to the nearest POB and back into the field and factoring in that due to slowness one could align the rate of this big mining ship with ships like the Arrastra, which I have yet to test in Dublin) would be realistic.
Was the Hegemon even upscaled? I'm pretty sure it was always that big. Like a Barge, it has very high strafe speed, so use that if you're struggling in asteroids.
Also, a fully kitted out Hegemon has 9965 free cargo space. 99.65% of a totally empty one. The cargo space taken by turrets is a complete non factor.
The size is slightly problematic when navigating gold ore field yes. However it has received an -insane- strafe speed to make up for it.
What do you mean poor results in mining? I usually get about 900-1000 ore out of a single asteroid with RPA| ID. Tried it on indie Molly ID and it was sufficient as well.
The longer travel time and actual mining is again offset by buffed gold ore refinery ratios.
It's 1 : 1.6 rather then 1 : 1.2 to other ores still with standard mining. Keep in mind you are getting paid 145$ pre ore on Connacht, which is insanely generous deal.

BMM gets like 400-500ish gold per asteroid at max with the Hegemon. Do you use a small miner? Or if you use the Hegemon, do you mine the small bits or do you destroy the whole thing outright? I did both on every asteroid and got the said no more than 500ish gold. Still no comparison to an Arrastra (pre-patch) who is mining the small asteroids so fast it can supply two quick moving 5k transports in the field.

The Arrastra also just gets like 400-500 Gold Ore from one asteroid and needs like 3 minutes to wear it down. Apart from that the original Gold mining zone has been nerfed to like 10%, so the whole system is nerfed.

I've made about 10 million credits Hegemon mining since the patch and I've spent about 4.5-5 hours actually doing it. On an indie ID (3.0x multiplier). Had I instead traded the stuff to a more remote location, like a BMM base in New London, I'd likely have made a healthy 6 million or so. Regardless, it's good stuff and that's with the PoB(s) heavily undercutting NPC bases in terms of HRC price.
Currently using a Hegemon to mine Gold Ore is likely a bit too fast. The primary benefit of slowing it down a little bit is that more remote PoBs would be more viable, as mining time would represent a more significant portion of the time spent collecting ore compared to travel time, making the latter less of a factor. I have not tried other mineables much so I don't have much of an opinion there.
If you're spending upwards of a minute mining a single asteroid in a Freighter or Fighter miner you are probably forgetting to mount missiles. Admittedly I don't think we mentioned that we strongly suggest using those on smaller ships outside of the balance notes.

No, you/the patch notes mentioned missiles, but stuff should work with normal weapons, too. The high profit is only possible because Connacht Depot buys Gold Ore at extremely high prices, doesn't take away that it is slow and clunky. I would settle for twice the kmioning yield.

The intent of the new mining system is for it to be an actual activity. A Hegemon is mining 10,000 volume worth of ore in, eh, let's say ten minutes - which is a high estimate, if we're talking pure mining time and ignoring travel time - on an indie 3.0x mining multiplier ID. That's already incredibly fast for the quantity mined. You may want twice the rate, but you have yet to provide an actual argument as to why it would be better for the game if mining was an instantaneous non-activity. If you don't like it, simply don't do it. The old mining method won't be going anywhere, and you can get your credits from it if you prefer it.

"The old mining method won't be going anywhere, and you can get your credits from it if you prefer it." Well, the original field in Dublin is pretty low on gold asteroids, so no. But I probably installed too few weapons on the Hegemon, I give you that. Probably faster if you can blast away like crazy.
