Asteroids are not a problem to be solved, it is intended. If you don't like the Hegemon the new Archon miner is designed for this, meant to be a bit smaller and nimble to go around asteroids better.
That being said, Hegemon works perfectly fine with Gold, I have made 150m+ on my Hegemon and the asteroids really are not that big of a deal you just have to work around them. If you don't like them it's fine, but it's certainly not a problem.
Thanks for the tip with the Archon, will definitely try that one. But my problem is not the Gold-asteroid size. My humble skills are completely sufficient to circle them in a Hegemon like a nimble bee, but the density of stuff that is simply in the way (aka the rest of the asteroids). No matter how I strafe, around my targets and moving between targets, it is a nightmare. But we had this conversation before, so let's keep it at that. However, I mined Niobium this morning and the efficiency and speed of conventional mining is unmatched and I still mourn for what I lost in Dublin...
How long do you take on Niobium and where/how much do you sell it for? I assume you're speaking of solo here, overall the money for old mining is significantly lower but the Hegemon did help it.
The issue with other asteroids are just not really an issue once you get used to it. They do slow you down, it's part of the hegemons balancing, but you can easily make 2.5mil an hour which is very good.

Yes, the disadvantage of the Arrastra etc. is that you can't really mine alone. Couldn't find the Archon in darkstat, where can you buy that cool looking thing?

Old mining is supported by fields like Copper, Silver etc if you want to invest your time in that.
Generally only a few people don't like the new mining, and its overall more profitable because of the tuning it has. Most of all it's better to approach solo. Gold, Platinum and Deuterium are all new mining system and will not have old bits of the field around it.
If you somehow mine 3x slower in the new mining system then there is something wrong with what you are doing, but also bare in mind that this system is supposed to make mining a little longer but the HRC base price increased with that making it more valuable.
I have to ask what game or what server are you playing on? I still know dozens of miners and most of them don't like this new system. I know several people who have given up playing this game because new mining system altogether. And I personally mine a lot but I don't like the new system at all and I can't mine at all with the new system. I have already given up gold and platinum mining. Second, this new system completely destroys group activity .

But it annoys me when people make silly comments about that... especially brits who for the most part can't speak their own language let alone anyone elses!

Could you walk me through how you came to this conclusion?
Come show me how you beam ore directly into a container or a transport ship, then we'll talk further. And that the transport will not die of radiation before the load is received.

As far as I know the radiation was turned down.
The way I do it in a group is a transport constantly comes into and out of the field. The miner drops ore, the trader tractors it without even breaking cruise, turns around, and goes to sell.
Does this not work?
A single hegemon can keep up with 1.5 5kers doing this, at least in Dublin.

Platinum is a little different and the radiation is very intense, particularly in the small pockets that have the most mineable asteroid spawns in them. It's being adjusted a little in the future but it might just not lend itself too well to extended ops. We'll tune it as needed regardless.
