So, I finally got a 3d modeling tool working (Blender). Woot!

*three hours of flailing around helplessly later*

I decided my creativity might best be used otherwise, and went for something a bit more familiar, drawing stuff. Thanks to Tablet InkArt, I now have a few rounds of a fighter line- after reading previous comments about what Gallic fighters should look like (consensus, elegant) I started tailoring them toward being house fighters rather than borderworlds type stuff.

Now, of course, my pitiful modeling skills don't even know how to make curves, let alone the beautiful stuff Jinx does, so I'll need some help. Comments, feedback, offers, or pics of models all appreciated.

Without further ado, the sketches.

Here is the first evolution that yielded any promise: curvy, and not terribly FLish, but certainly elegant. Nicknamed the "romulan" style by Unselie, as the wings look vaguely like the Romulan Warbird from Star Trek.

After that sketch comes the more fleshed out bomber version, still smooth but more warlike and less toylike and plasticy.

Now comes a more FL-ish and blocky version, with the wings turned into a sort of octagon rather than a flattened circle.

Bomber- sorry about it being a bit high, if I can figure out a way to drag it down I will.

After this, Unselie wondered what the ships would look like with a more "teardrop" shape to the wings, so I bent the bottom parts upward and merged them with the hull a bit more.

More minor tweaks from an ongoing conversation with Unselie.

so is the general idea here to have hollow 'tube' like wings?

Something like that. It gives them a feel that they really are a bit different, but still look like house fighters- unique and elegant, but still military.

If you want to see what they would look like with any modifications, let me know, it takes a mere five minutes to switch something up.

dunno - is that official? - i asked igiss if he already has models for the new house or if he needs assistance. - it never said he needs assistance, so i guess he already has them.

Nope, didn't talk to Igiss yet, they're "only" sketches right now after all. Huh. At any rate they could be used as replaces for Homeworld ships if nothing else, but they scream "Gallia" to me. I'll have to pack my gear and adventure in hope of the ever-elusive Igiss for the situation. In the mean time would you be so kind to play around with the concept if you need something to do? I have no doubt you'll turn them into something worth drooling over.

Ever though about The gallic using ships recalling the biplanes in WWI ?

Just a suggestion, it would be frikking cool.

Looking at these two, I think it would be a great idea to have the hex wings made less out of rectangles and more out of some sort of...other shape... it swoops back in the first, but is horridly rigid in the second..I know I keep tossing out contradictory thoughts...but...a bit more curve to the rigid wings?
