The captain left his hand down, the signal for the operation to begin. Begin phase one.
The operators nodded as they entered comm silence. Everything was to be directed by signs from now on.
From the back of the once-again camouflaged destroyer, small disk-shaped like objects were unleashed by dozens as they used integrated thrusters to position themselves accordingly to the directions from the bridge of the Rosa Luxemburg. Swarms of them invaded the space above the planet in no time.
When all the manoeuvre was over, the captain nodded, giving his agreement to proceed on phase 2. Deploy the bombs.
It was impressive how such a small vessel held so much material. This time, it was spherical shaped bombs dropping from the back of the ship...
After what, everyone stood attentive as they awaited their next and final phase...

Shuttle 0601 operational center, California Minor.
"Right, Jimmy, I want you to take care of the orbit around the planet. Take care with the Falls. As of myself, I'll take over control of L-9... we have much to do to prevent another catastrophee."
The black-hulled shuttle landed in a hurry over the landing pad of the L-9 planetary base, engine smoking heavily in the cold air. Isabelle jumped out of the ship as soon as the hatch slid open and ran toward her headquarter. As soon as she reached her office' personnal comm unit, she openned up a link to the convoy;
"768-902, this is general Kaitlynn of the Liberty Army Command. Please reach or turn back to CAL-Cp02 waypoint as soon as you can, do you copy?"
There were no answer, only...
"768-902, please respond, over."
Again, no answer, only disruption to be heard.
Isabelle cursed herself for not having thought about this simple tactic sooner. Someone out there was obviously using some kind of transmition disruption device... It was amasing their enemy even dared to use such an easy trick, for it was as easy to trace back the disruption signal source. Garde ton calme... [Stay calm...]
If they risked themselves detection, it probably meant it was a remote controlled station installed on the ground since a while. However, considering the profesionalism of their opponents, it was more likely it was something that wouldn't risk to be destroyed. The mysterious crafts seen over Houston maybe? Nobody knew of its full capacities, and it seemed like a box filled with surprise and impressive tricks.
More importantly, that meant this temporary mean of comm disruption was meant to make them lose time. Without being able to reach the targeted convoy, she couldn't warn them of anything. More than probably, an ambush was set somewhere...
She was interrupted by the loud alarm of the base, warning from space-based attack. Not a drill...
"What..."

L-9 Liberty Army Planetary Base, California Minor
"Everyone within the security perimeter, this is not a drill, I repeat, this is not a drill!"
No sooner was this said that the first lances of energy typical of planetary bombardment rained down, clearly visible by the naked eyes, and that convinced anyone lagging behind they were seriously in trouble if they stayed outside.
Loud explosions shook the ground as the energy beams hit the shield defence of the base...
--
Revolutionary Army Destroyer Rosa Luxemburg
Around them, the miniature mobile weapons platform began raining down their projectiles on target. However, the disk-shaped devices weren't as deadly as they seemed...
The captin smiled in appreciation at the thought of the terror their enemies down there would be feeling... thousands of bombardment beam coming out from a fleet appearing out of nowhere. For each of the disk, once activated, produced an artificial gravity mass equivalent to those of capital vessels.
As to the lance of energy beam themselves, they were merely light emissions going through specificly shaped crystal lense. Very much used in celebrations.
And the impacting explosions over the shield?
Nothing more than shockwave bombs being hurled down. Cheap to produce, producing impressive lightning effects, noises and shockwave, small and not very visible in the sky, they weren't very deadly either. The best it could possibly manage would be knocking down a mature adult human being if it was detonated close enough.
The artificial hell they unleashed down on L-9, the primary base of the planet, would be enough to terrify and disorganise the command structure while the coalition' two agents would get rid of the convoy.
The captain looked down on the planet from his view port, wishing the lieutenant commander Xing and his apprentice the best of luck.

Kaitlynn' office, L-9 Liberty Army Planetary Base, California Minor
If the young general was surprised for the first few minutes of the attack, she quickly came back to her sense. All that was only a mere simulation. Another impressive trick of their opponents.
It didn't mattered much if they were indeed rheinlanders or not, these were very impressive men.
Whoever was the strategist at the other end of the battlefield certainly merited her respect.
But it wasn't going to over...
She openned up her comm unit again, and after entering her ID codes, used an internal cable link.
"Colonel Vezina."
The voice at the other end was quick, precise and crystal clear, nearly as cold as durasteel. Isabelle' eyes turned somewhat sad for a few seconds before becoming normal again. Another
She hated being recalled bad memories. Another White Wolf veteran, like herself...
"General Kaitlynn here. Vezina, I need your men to go ahead at the Torance Military Lab. Keep an eye open on anything that might be suspiciously ressemble an ambush. And if you meet convoy 902, protect it at all cost."
"Understood."
As the base returned to normal status and began trying to shoot down the strange automated fake weapon platform with land based turrets, a group of powerful landspeeders painted in cammo white departed from the base...

Revolutionary Army Destroyer Rosa Luxemburg
"Sir, a gunboat coming on us at full speed, right ahead! It's the LNS Niagara Falls!"
The captain suddenly turned around to his radop officer, unbelieving.
"What?! How did they came here so fast, it's impossible!"
He closed his hands into fist, obviously this wasn't part of the plan at all.
"We don't have time to wrap up. Take in as much of the drones as possible, throw all the bombs down and destroy whatever remains. Engineering, the Shape Distortion engine is still on, yes?"
"Affirmative comrade captain. We are already packing up as fast as we can."
"Good, once it's done, helm, evasive action until the lieutenant commander confirms the success of his mission. After what we go down to get him, and then, plot a course out of here as quick as possible."

"Enemy sighted, lieutenant commander, comrade. At 3 o'clock."
The young soldier re-adjusted his helm' visor, as he zoomed on the picture of the libertonian convoy, and restransmitted the live feed to his commander. Xing nodded as he saw the ships as well, despite the heavy snow storm that suddenly began. It wasn't going to be easy to shoot with the wind, but once he would fire, nothing would be able to stop or deviate the laser beam.
Still, he needed to adjust his guns according to the planetary gravity mass. He activated his radio to answer to his assistant.
"Very well. Proceed as planned; Take down the shields and electronic systems of the whole convoy through a spread shot. Don't worry about using all the battery, their electronic systems should be fried even if their defence weren't activated. I will then land a shot in the rear escort, you will take on the convoy itself, leaving me enough time to take on the front escort. At which point, we shall rush in the freighter and take over the cargo. No prisonner, no pity, kill anything on your path and victory shall be our's, comrade."
And with no more words to add on this short final briefing, Xing looked through the scope of his sniper. He saw the blurred ion particle beam coming out loudly from the canon manned by his comrade soldier. Through the thousands of snow flakes, he saw the beam splash on shields and crumbling them in a matter of a few seconds.
Excellent work, he thought for himself as he focused on searching the back escort...
And, instead of finding only one fighter craft or anything similar, he found 2 libertonian military landspeeder as well...
"Get out of here!" He whispered hastily on his comm unit. Things weren't going well. He zoomed his scope on the two unexpected vehicles, confirming his doubts; these weren't naval crafts, these were L-9 Army crafts. And seeing how their engine sections still seemed to steam slightly in the cold temperature, it meant they were most probably hastily detached there.
As such, there were probably already some foot soldiers on the ground already searching for them...
their prime target would be the position from which came the ion blast!
There was simply no chance for them to...
Well, maybe if his idiot of an assistant was good enough to evade the enemy long enough...
"Escape pursuit as best as you can. Take out the Bird if you need to."
"Yes comrade! I... I will try my best!"
"Don't try your best, do your best, by Marx!"
Xing wasn't in his best mood when things weren't going accordingly to his plans.
This might turn into a catastrophee if he didn't do anything to prevent another failure...
Without any second thought, he quickly prepared 5 ammunition units, each containing a highly volatile gas used in the powerful laser sniper rifle, enhancing the strenght of a convetional beam a few hundreds fold. There was no way to escape death caused by such a deadly weapon.
After what, he prepared 5 new especially shaped barrel lenses made in liquid-metal he wasn't even sure to understand the composition himself.
In either case, it was a very common tool in assasination operations. Good for only one shot (after what it was merely carbonised by the single fire), it was helpful in erasing the signature of a laser beam by rendering it invisible to the human eyes. Very costly as well, the lieutenant-commander didn't expected he'd have to use them today...
Hopefully 5 shots would be enough to accomplish his objectives.
He targeted the stopped convoy' escort pilots, killing them off with a single shot each. He was glad the silencer of his rifle worked perfectly, the usual whine of the gun was now a barely audible cough.
After what, it was the shuttle' pilot, going down, followed by the drivers of the landspeeders. His discret work seemed to have gone unoticed, all the personnel of the convoy either hurrying to evacuate the ships or patrolling the area for their attacker.
He hoped his partner was still alive and well...

Somewhere on California Minor
Dimitri was a realist man. He wasn't like some of the other valiant heroes of the Revolution, sacrificing themselves gladly for the People. He liked his life, and wanted to live as much as he could, as such, he had no problem running away from an outnumbering enemy.
Still, he wondered if it was actually a good idea to simply follow his commander' orders. Lieutenant-commander Xing was someone who seemed to prefer death to failure, and there was no doubt he was probably even now attempting something very suicidal...
Ah, there was the Bird.
He looked around quickly, but in that blasted snow storm, he couldn't see far away despite the automatic filtering made by his helm' visor. It was actually a miracle he managed to reach the craft, already covered over a few centimeters of snow. Hopefully, it made a good cammo, for anyone not looking attentively would have thought it was merely a rock boulder.
He hastily openned the hatch and found a small haven of security within the thick hull of the heavy fighter.
Sitting on the pilot chair, he flickered on all the systems, making a global check that revealed all operational, which was quite exceptionnal despite the cold outside.
But then again, what else could be expected from the man that designed these war machines...
And it took him only that long to decide he wasn't going to evade his enemy cowardly.
He was going to fight them back with all the might of the Red!!

Somewhere on California Minor.
Isabelle arrived somewhat behind the squadron of soldiers she sent in vanguard. She saw the shadowy shape of colonel Vezina, easily distinguished by his impressive height.
"What is the situation?"
"We've been hit by an ion strike. Pilots on each ships are trying to figure out how to restart their crafts. Meanwhile, I've asked my men to patrol the areas for whoever fired the shot."
Isabelle shook her head,
"It's useless. By that time they would have fled already."
"My men have been very discre..."
"Useless. These aren't normal enemies we are fighting. They probably noticed your landspeeders weren't suposed to be part of the original convoy, and fled at once. I bet your men didn't found anything yet?"
Vezina remained stone faced, though he did nodded in agreement.
"What do you suggest then, general?"
"If they are going to escape, it will be by space. Continue your searches, but check for anything looking like a space ship. I have already called in reinforcement to take care of whatever is in space, so it should only be a matter of time before we either capture or terminate the targets."
Isabelle looked briefly through the grey, inexpressive eyes of the officer before turning away.
In another time, this man used to serve with her in one same unit...
A unit stained with blood.
"Sir, we've found fresh footprints on the snow, it's leading to..."
The voice coming out from the colonel' comm unit was suddenly interrupted by a noise so loud it was an ache to support any longer...
But Isabelle and Vezina didn't need to ask what it was as they saw clearly their answer... flying out of its nest.

Somewhere on California Minor.
The "Bird", an Insurgent-class coalition heavy fighter
Xing saw with a little smile the Insurgent-class heavy fighter rise up in the sky and open fire at once on ground trooper which stood no chance against its guns. He only hoped the enemy didn't have any heavy weaponnery... in such a blizzard, it wouldn't be easy to dodge...
He popped open the emergency hatch of the freighter and infiltrated himself within, unseen from the soldiers...
--
Revolutionary Army Destroyer Rosa Luxemburg
"Impact, the left engine pod is losing integrity, comrade captain!"
"We are sustaining direct hit on the bow, the armor layers are collapsing very fast!"
The officer didn't saw any other option. The inventor of the ship was on the ground in mission, he didn't have a joker card to play this time. And because the bombs and weapon platform took some storage place in his vessel, it sacrificed somewhat the regeneration battery and nanobot compartment.
As such, he didn't have any battery available.
"Activate the nanobot. We have no choice, helm, all forward! We can't risk to turn tail against such a powerful opponent, it would shred us apart in no time if we can't hold it off with our guns. Dodge its fire - but don't play vessel collision! When you are near enough, flinch and head downward, where he has the least of gun points. We will damage as much as possible its engines, and then head away. Send an emergency transmission to lieutenant commander Xing, we won't be able to extract them from the planet for now, let them abord the operation and hide for the moment. Send a second message to the local partisan stronghold, they are to take care of them. Now, let's do it!"
And as the Rosa Luxemburg began it's suicidal charge, the Niagara kept his fire steady, slashing energy over the hull of the destroyer, which' shape distortion engine began to fail as it transferred more energy to maintain the shield operational...
A very clear image of the Rosa Luxemburg from the bridge of the Niagara Falls.
As it went below the hull of the Niagara Falls, a Liberty cruiser dropped out of hyperspace. The LNS Citadelle de Montreal, under the command of captain Lavoie...
It began firing as soon as possible, but it was already too late; the small coalition craft easily dodged the fire coming from his back and escaped once again...
If the cheerful emotions aboard the destroyer remained only briefly, the nervosity and discipline came back immediately. The mission wasn't over - was far from being over yet.
"Comrades, tonight we hide and hope in our hearts that the two of us down on this planet are among the living. Tommorow, when we shall be ready, we fight back the capitalist filth. For now, someone please make an inspection of the ship. Check for any tracer, anything that might be transmitting our location to the enemy..."

In the middle of the battlefield, few were the soldiers who weren't confused. Laser fire seems to come out of everywhere - and it was impossible to know who was firing on what with the storm. But Vezina was sharp enough to run to his landspeeder and deploy a RPG launcher in a second. He aimed for the fighter craft, but couldn't get a lock; the pilot wasn't that good actually, but the strong winds going on at this moment shook the small craft unpredictably. His weapon, without tracking capabilities, was useless for the moment... he growlered in frustration as he tried to focus on the target...
Meanwhile, the shuttle' engine suddenly lit up...
--
Xing hastily openned his comm unit;
"Dimitri, retreat to point Omega, repeat, point Omega, over!"
He then pushed the thruster pedal to the maximum, hasting his hijacked vehicle toward the rendez vous point. Escaping would be relatively easy; the only one who actually should have kept an eye on the precious convoy were lying dead in their own crafts, while the soldiers on the ground were busy trying to shoot down the Bird with their blasters; but Xing knew the thick armor of the fighter craft was more than enough to shake off such minor threat...
But, it couldn't stand against a gunboat...!
--
"... Omega, over!"
The young coalition soldier barely heard the voice of his commander as he desperatly tried to gain control of his ship. The menacing sight of the gunboat was more than enough to instill fear in him; his ship wasn't equipped to take out such a threat!
His only advantage, the snow storm, was also disadvantaging; he could barely keep the control of his craft while the winds made him dance in the air wildly. On the other hand, the massive gunboat was nearly standing still in the air as it pumped hundreds of laser pulses toward him.
"Damn! Oh motherland how did I ended up here...!!" he thought, as he saw an obviously explosive projectile fly past his cockpit, barely missing him. Someone on the ground had an anti-fighter weapon it seemed...
As he set the craft to turn around toward his escape point, he saw on his backward camera the main gun of the enemy vessel turn slowly, slowly toward him...
He tried to thrust in any direction, out of the range of the monstruous weapon, but it was no help, it...
A loud explosion, blaring alarm following suit as the cabin was rapidly filled with smoke and heat... coughing and blinking desperatly to see his console, Dimitri saw the shield pod was completely melted... in fact, nearly the whole right side of the craft was torn apart...
He looked with an eerie calm as he saw his craft slowly going down as the repulsor desperatly tried to maintain the heavy craft in the air. But it was no use, the right wing was gone, the right engine pod was gone, he was flying on his stabilisers.
Even if he did survived the crash, he wouldn't be able to escape.
...
The lieutenant commander was holding a cup of the exotic brevage only his race of people drank. A faint smile could be seen on his face as he drank from it, a little sip of the hot liquid. Dimitri often saw him to that before a mission. It helped him focus. He called it "tea", and it certainly wasn't the bretonian stuff.
It was also one of those few moments where the officer actually seemed relaxed.
But what the man was about to say, and in fact, repeat, since it was the protocole before every such operation, was extremely serious.
"... if, by any event, you are to be captured, then, I am afraid I will have to order you to commit the ultimate sacrifice."
...
He closed his eyes, as he slid open a hidden console. Before punching on the buttons with serenity, he smiled slowly as he saw his life, the enjoyable parts and those less, pass in front of his eyes. So, it was true... even though it was only his imagination...
His last image was a world commanded by the coalition, the dream of every men serving for the Cause...
He entered the last key of the combination.
The spectacular explosion was for a moment brighter than anything, but like human life compared to space, it lasted only that much little amount of seconds before fading away, his glory exhausted...
--
"General Kaitlynn..."
Xing tapped gently on the auto-flight button and rose up from the pilot seat. He couldn't have known who it was from his position. He didn't even knew there was someone else aboard until then...
The woman was pointing a service blaster on him.
Xing didn't have any magician skills. But it was only logical it would be the general herself, which he saw on the ground a few minutes ago, that went aboard the craft. Having analysed the intelligence data the coalition collected on every member of the libertonian armed forces that could possibly get involved in the operation, he knew the woman was probably the most capable on land.
Perhaps as good as he was?
"You are indeed as fast as your reputation claims. I applaud your skills."
The general (and only then did he noticed how she looked incredibly young for such a title) didn't react to his words, but only continued to point her weapon. He understood she wanted him to raise his hands.
But, the fact she didn't fired yet meant she wanted him alive.
She wanted answers.
Ah well then...
The pilot seat still stood between him and the general. Without much thought, he made a sudden move, positioning himself right behind the chair. Taken (only slightly, he noted) by surprise, Kaitlynn fired a single shot toward him, grazzing his shoulder.
He ignored the pain, clenching his fists as he readied himself for combat.
With a terrible yell, he rose up and kicked the chair out of its axis, out of its fixed emplacement and sending it flying toward the general. If she was fast enough to dodge the large projectile, which smashed itself against the side console of the craft, causing sparks to errupt, she couldn't possibly dodge his second blow; a kick on her hand that made her release the grip on her gun...
--
He is very good...
Isabelle wasn't too concerned with the loss of her weapon. In such a close combat situation, a gun was mostly useless, as she learnt through her experiences. It was down to punches, kicks, and whatever other moves the human body, a real killing machine, was made for.
Slaughter your enemy until victory.
In her time within the White Wolf squadron, she rarely took part in operations in Kusari, but she fully knew all the strenght these people held in their nearly artistic combat movement.
This man wasn't fighting very much like them; his movements were even more intricates, as she blocked an impressively powerful blow.
Whatever he is using, I won't get defeated by mere art...
She went on the offensive, striking blows that could be easily fatal on any human being; kicks at vital points, punches on weak areas...
But the man knew how to defend itself. The skills he possessed could be seen through his fluid, quick motions as he dodged or blocked her every moves, and matched her speed to counter her...
--
I haven't overestimated her. She is truly worthy to be my enemy...
Would the situation havent been so critical, Xing would have cracked up one of his rare smile. The thrill of close combat; what was there better to ask for a warrior?
And wasn't it even better to fight your equal?
...
The man was very old... Xing didn't recalled having seen anyone so old around. Not just the tavern, which was mostly populated by coalition soldiers. But the city itself was mostly populated by young pilots or pirates, eager for adventure and profit.
That city was on Gran Canaria, a heavenly place was it not for the strange people frequenting it.
Xing bowed respectuously. Other than warriors and superiors, the Old Ones were to be respected as well, for they held the keys to Wisdom.
The man returned the salute with a strange youthful energy. Despite his obviously aging body, he moved as if he was barely a third of his real age.
"How an old carcass like me, moves like the fierce tigers of your age, isn't it?"
The lieutenant commander was slightly confused by the man' speech pattern. He could have sworn...
"You are from..."
"We do descend from a very, very old land, do we?..."
The man passed his right hand through his impressively long white beard, giving him the air of wisdom that came with age.
Xing shook his head slowly,
"How... I didn't..."
"Numbers matter not, if one alone can defeat the opponents to our destiny, is it not?"
The elderly man lifted his cane and smiled through his beard,
"Young son, you need not trouble yourself with meaningless matters. You have one objective, and I will work with you toward it, for the sake of our people... come see me tommorow.
We will begin training your soul, mind and body for you have chosen the path of the Warriors..."
...
And their fighting continued, the combat of the fierce chinese tiger against the savage artic wolf. Blows after blows were exchanged as both side used their immense knowledges on martial fightings, one from the former Old Earth West, the other from the former Old Earth East...
In that moment, the world around them didn't existed anymore even though their furious fight was smashing everything around them, until...
--
They were obviously both of them surprised, so focused they were on the next move they were about to execute. A fight was as intricated as a dance, and nothing must disturb the dancers...
But, something exactly disturbed them...
That is, the ship suddenly jumped - not much, perhaps half a meter. But it was enough to make both of them fall - it was unavoidable in the situation they were in.
She saw her anonymous opponent hold on a metalic bar set on one of the hull pannel intended for emergency use...
In the few miliseconds she had to look around though, she couldn't find any.
And that was enough to give the upper hand to the coalition soldier. She knew she had lost when she hit harshly an already smashed console.
The next second, she was facing the barrel of a blaster.
