I could use a few volunteers to work on a relatively small project for the economy in the next mod version.
As you know, guard bases do not have commodities for sale or purchase but it makes sense for them to at least be purchasing Food Rations, Oxygen, and Water. It's a relatively simple process to add price points for them, but getting the data is fairly tedious and time consuming. So I am asking for a few people to supply me with the data that is needed to accomplish this.
You will need to have access to google docs, which you can get by registering at google.com. I will give a few people access to a spreadsheet created for this project. Here is what you will need to do :
The spreadsheet will list all of the guard bases in column A.
1. In column B you will add the name of the base (that has a price for Food, Oxygen, and Water) that is closest to the base in column A. The column B base will obviously be outside the guard system, but probably is in the system right next to the guard system.
2. In columns C,D, & E, you will put in the price that the base in column B has for Food, Oxygen, and Water (each column will be labeled already).
The program FLStat is probably the most helpful one for getting the data that you'll need.
And that's basically it. I'm not going to deal with travel times since none of these commodities are really used for trading anyway. We just need the prices to be similar to the prices outside of the guard system. I will adjust them to be slightly higher later.
If you are willing to work on this, post here. Its a tedious chore, but a few people working together (and checking each other's work) could finish it pretty quickly.

Huh ? Excuse me but except the player on the same faction, no-one else might be allowed to enter a guard system. So the economy to guard systems might not exist. I'm wrong ?
i have a corsair tagged/IDed pirate train and i would like to see such opportunities to make a fast buck. i know i would only be allowed to trade to the corsair guard system. and i see this more of an opportunity to RP instead of a high profit delivery.
on the other hand i find it kinda boring that the stations only offer credit cards, when it is said that many guard stations are for 'resupply' well for RP you don't only need H-Fuel but maybe also food? and these stations need to be supplied with oxygen and water ect. just the basics.
I started to do this and then realised I wasn't sure about exactly what we are aiming at. I initially thought we were looking for bases that sold all 3 commodities that were the closest to those guard bases and would trade with them. I just had another look at the spreadsheet and some others have started and I think may also be getting it wrong.
This is how I see it now after getting clarification from Xoria:
Guard bases currently have no prices for Food, Water and Oxygen. This looks silly because they would have to buy them from traders to keep the base going.
These prices need to be set to be similar to the prices paid in the systems nearest to them.
So, simply put, all we are doing is finding the CLOSEST base, in the CLOSEST system that has a price for all 3 commodities; not that also SELLS them, just has a price. The prices will then be used as a basis to set the prices in the guard base.
If necessary, where the closest base only has prices for 1 or 2 of them, add a column with the next nearest base that sells the 3rd one and make a note.
Example: Alexandria Base - Closest base is Planet Crete (Food:190, Oxygen:45, Water:195)
(Somebody has set this as being Freeport-9, which is further away, unless I am mistaken!)
Hopefully, I have got this right. Please correct me if I haven't. This is not about setting up trading routes, it is about making the guard bases look more realistic.
