Well at least the Trader generic should be limited, or discarted... There is a big bag of trading companies... So why when someone have...idk, Interspace IFF, why do they have generic Trader ID? And yeah Im stuffed of theese Police IFF/ Trader IDs as well, theres no logic in that... ( Well there is, it take like 10 mins to get the police IFF and Trader id...so its the fastest and simpliest method...Zoi: Siruis.)
I buy things I don't want to make an impression on people I don't like.
Perhaps Smuggler ID could be limited to unlawful factions...
Let's say Corsair trader would have a smuggler ID instead of the Corsair ID, so in case an outcast would meet that "trader" he would have to make a demand before blasting the infidel to bitts...
At the same time, if I as a pirate see a Smuggler, I will have qualms about taxing him, if he says he supports our side (Corsairs) even without a tag, this ID just gives you an edge. So this indeed is the Unlawful generic trader, while traders are lawful...
When contacted by unlawfuls smuggler ID gives you a better barganing position... where's traders will simply get you robed.
So there is that extra bit. Perhaps if a trader is cought with contraband, he would be punished by having to wear smugglers ID...

Speaking as someone who controls an indie trader character, indie traders don't necessarily go all over Sirius. Carrie, for instance, is Bretonian, and thus doesn't want to go near Kusari for fear of getting her head kicked in, she doesn't particularly want to deal in any unlawful activity, and the Liberty-Rheinland embargo prevents her carrying stuff directly between liberty and Rheinland. Indie traders aren't always these go-where-you-like, trade-what-you-want super-moneymakers. They have self-imposed restrictions. Or probably should, in any case.
*is for generic Trader IDs*
I agree that some restriction is needed. I think Kuraine proposed limiting Trader and Smuggler ID to 3600 cargo or less, which seems like the most reasonable proposal. It leaves Trader ID useful for those of us who actually want to RP it, and still provides an incentive to populate the various trading factions like ALG.
Well, okay, maybe not ALG, but the other ones would surely get some use.
pieguy: Some of us do have self-imposed restrictions - but the majority don't.
' Wrote:The generic IDs are the one freedom that lets some people RP their character well.
Maybe you want a reputation for background and the ID to define your activity.
A Zoner repped smuggler--maybe down on hard times and desperate. addicted to cardamine.
A Corsair trader--fallen from grace and avoiding home.
etc. etc.
So..what DID you smuggle?
marijuana, sometimes other drugs. thank you for noting the ex part as others did not. The point was not to brag but to illustrate that while people believe doing the most realistic thing is roleplaying, it is not.
Back to the subject at hand, I cant believe that people are proposing any of the following items of inbred sillyness:
1. most smugglers are OORP
2. there are too many indy traders
3. the id tag system doesent work
1. as long as there is contraband, people will find a way to sell and buy it. People hollow out their babies to smuggle drugs IRL.
2. How many mom and pop shipping companies are there compared to national/international brands? Its thousands to one at least.
3. The RP system here is well thought out and works excellent considering what the coders were given to work with. As i mentioned earlier, people doing an OORP act (not patroling, sitting in front of one planet) saying that they wish they could do their job when they arent even trying is utter BS. How dare someone ask me to change my RP when theirs is poor at best in the first place.
I would love to see more faction traders RPing out there. I just joined Bowex and it is a very good RP opportunity. However I found out 2 things early on in my careeer here on Disco:
a. everybody doesn't roleplay, nor does everybody RP the same.
b. splitting hairs will give you grey ones. Do your best and move on.
