Much discussion in game has been chartered over Religion and its role in humanity. Therefore I feel it must be addressed here and represented in game. I hereby open this forum to discussion of what role it should play here in Freelancer-- and the idea, discussed by many in game, about the formation of a religiously based group out of Rheinland. Further info on that faction here -- http://discoverygc.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=23448
Note: Not a forum for religious debate, rather what should its role be in FL and how should we possibly go about it.
Religion, obviously, is a major factor today. Most wars, conflicts, and ideas stem from religious basis, and it creates part of our Humanity. Therefore I, and seemingly many others, find that its lack of representation in Freelancer very much take away from it. Freelancer does a great job representing factions and the life/times of many, however it sorely lacks "faith" and the problems/ideals/wars that stem from it. Therefore in further, I believe the role of "faith" and "religious representation" in Freelancer should be discussed.
Note: In NO way do I advocate that real religions, or anything much like them, be represented. I am presenting that ideals based off nomads, relationships or ties to certain ideas, or even in Rheinland (the faction idea stated in the link above) where it is said the Chancellor is considered godly or god-like by most, should be represented!! Of course in a universe of beliefs and ideals religion will sprout, HOWEVER religions from real life should not show up here it will cause too much debate and such. Lets keep it original.
And... fire (flame) away!!

I have encountered some Xenos who seems to believe in an unamed "God" (perhaps the same as the one in christianity).
Outcasts seems to think Nomads are divine creatures, so probably their religion is highly nomad-influenced.
Rheinland, well, its the Church of the Green Eagle, of which I have absolutely no idea whats its about other than they have a Gottkanzler and every citizen must be member of said Church.
Kusari, not really mentionned, but by the big buddha statue in NT, I'd guess they have something close to shintoism/buddhism for sure.
Bretonia uh... that I do not know.
To be quite honest, I think the less said about religion the better.
I have nothing against religion, I have the same beliefs about athiesm too.
Creating a situation where they are openly discussed etc and conflict can so easily rise is a hornets nest made of death.
This is merely only in regards to Disco serverplay that is.
If you refer to factions such as Agnus Dei, the Church of the Chancellor, the Nomad Worshipers etc etc then yes sure.
I know you have said that there ought to be no links to real religions but often it is good to repeat things again to make sure people know:P
All in all, I don't think it should have any special treatment when compared to any other faction, merely in terms of rules etc.
(IE creating a 'Purge them all!' faction requires a terrorist ID etc)
No offense and apologies but:
Church of the Green Eagle I've heard of once before, and that was because they're getting their own ID?!
First time I've heard of Agnus Dei
Discordianism I looked up and don't understand!(right for the TAZ though)
These religions mentioned aren't enforced upon anyone... perhaps unrealistic?
I like this idea of an unofficial quasilegal military arm (like the privateers in a way) for rheinland
And more religion in Freelancer a must
Those of us up in the higher Omicrons don't 'worship' Nomads. We regard them as more of a potential bioweapon and a military interest than anything else. For all relations to others, we have a very direct Don't Touch the Nomads policy.
Also, all of my Outcasts are Catholic. It doesn't get dragged into things much, but I think there are religions present in FL, they're just not expressed, and there's certainly room for them.

Yes all religious references and such will be entirely fictitious and created.
