I've always liked the look of EVE. I had a friend who played the demo out, and from what I gather new players can never really catch up to older players because of the way skill leveling works. And that you have to let it consume yoru life to be a competitive player.
That alone wouldn't stop me from playing, but $130 to play for a year? No thanks. If somebody offered to pay my subscription, I'd play the game, RP, and permanantly swear myself to their cause. But wouldn't everyone? I do hear however that game time can be purchased with in game credits, but I'm not sure how long it takes to get to the point where you can raise that sort of cash, and it probably requires an obscene amount of game-hours to maintain that income.
The most enjoyment I've had out of EVE was listening to my friend tell his stories about a journey 32 systems into enemy territory to view the wreckage of a destroyed Titan.

These are not true. There are ways to increase the speed of your skill leveling for one. Two, you do not have to let EVE consume your life just to be a competitive player. I played about 2-3 hours per day and will do so when I get my subscription back. Thats not 'consuming my life.' Thats less time than I generally spend on FL. Yet I'm still very able to do anything I want. I've done 0.0 sec space fighting/alliance fighting. I've been in empire for a long time, etc.

That wasn't intended as a cut to EVE, it's obviously a fantastic game, evidenced by the size of its playerbase. I've got a hankering to try it out, I'm just afraid that after my 14-21 day trial (I might go through Steam) I'd be addicted enough to pay for it.
How difficult is it to raise sufficient in game credits to pay for your subscription that way?
Meh... It's not THAT much money... I buy personally buy gamecards from the US, have the number e-mailed to me, and take advantage of the USD-EURO exchange rate... I pay almost 8 euro for it...
And believe me, if you take up 0.0 PVP/alliance membership, you will want to keep all our money for your ship.
If you become a carebear in high-sec, we may be the ones to suicide gank you.

Takes about 6 months to get to that point. Once you can run Level 4 missions and own a battleship you can pay with in-game money. Takes about 400 million ISK to buy a GTC. Over 60 days. So thats only 10 million per day that can get you a GTC AND 200mil per month. That'll be enough for most of your expenses and your subscription. But yeah, if you go until nullsec (0.0 security space) you'll want to be able to keep all your cash for your own use.

GOONSWARM!!! FOR GALACTIC DOMINATION!
You do know 90% of the EVE community hates Goonswarm right? Goonswarm admitted that their goal is to simply ruin the game for everyone. Ganking people in high-sec through suicide runs and tricking new players. Thats like flying around New York in a BS to blow up Starfliers. Its pathetic, and I don't like seeing it being displayed as a good thing.

Carebear tears are delicious... The agony of a wardecked corporation when you take out it's members... It's something out of this world.
The GoonSwarm is the ultimate representation of an evil empire. It moves quickly, strikes efficiently (power through numbers) and represents true chaos.
They are hated just because carebears want to mine happily among the stars, without any danger. Guess again... EVE is a game with non-consensual PVP. If you are not ready to accept that, kindly leave.
Now, if only I had some more oomph in my Apocaloomph...

Struck a nerve did I? Not that I expected much of a real response from a Goon. Anywhere, wardeccing corporations in high-sec is fine by me. Some deserve it for being so stupid to have undefended POSs in high-sec systems.
Its the ganking of indie industrial ships, mining barges, and suiciding against freighters and the lot in high-sec. Its pathetic. No, I'm not a carebear, and I don't have any tears concerning Goonswarm, I just find them to be a pathetic lot. Your trying to ruin the game for everyone. I've fought Goonswarm 5 times in nullsec. Each time, you lost, each time you flamed in system chat. Every time, you were a sore loser. Goonswarm imho is the alliance of 12 year olds. Your only saving grace is that instead of most game-addicted 12 year olds, your trying to ruin EVE, rather than ruin your own life by playing WoW nonstop.
Carebears are a blight. But Goonswarm also kills new players. Players under 2 weeks old when they offer to drop a jetcan with some random item in it, then kill the nooblet when he grabs the item out. Nooblets don't know that marks them as killable by the owner, but Goonswarm does it to get their kicks and jollies. As I said, its the same as a Cruiser or BS killing Starfliers at Manhatten during their first hours. You can't justify Goonswarm's pathetic traits. 90% of EVE isn't carebears.. Carebears are about 20% of the game. But there is another 70% of half-empire/half-nullsec players, and full nullsec players who despise Goonswarm, and they have plenty of good reasons.
