If you try to type out chat on either side, pirate or trader, too often you get the other side taking advantage of it to cruise or to shoot. The only thing more annoying than having your trader blow up while you're typing is having some trader getting into cruise while your typing than calling you a noob for it.
I had some pirate ask for 12 mill last night, that's kinda funny, he obviously wanted to kill rather than pirate asking for that much.
Odd, am I the only person who tries to negotiate a lower price with the pirates? Unless you're up against someone who wants to do nothing more than destroy you, trying to negotiate a lower price just makes sense.
Yup , When i first start trading in there . There were No PIRATES , that why i got insane when i found my self flanked by 6-9 pirates in 5 seconds in one of those days
Hey they are pirates, aren't they allowed to pirate you? Besides you're a powertrader doing the diamond-niobium route so you should have enough to pay them off. And wouldn't it be better to just pay them off and have them not bother you for an hour or more? Yes you will lose a huge sum but atleast you will live to gain it back, over time. By the way, I think it's OORP for lawful traders to use those jumpholes. Lawful traders in Blood Dragons and GC territory is just asking for it. So please don't complain about it anymore, especially those power traders. As for pirates, steal a resaonable amount from them unless they want to do it the hard way. Hehehe:D

I dont know, I compair it to real life. If you get a mugger yanking you into a ally and he has a gun to your head. Then he demands all your money, would you really try and talk him down to half, and not exspect to get pistol whipped for that?
Just feel lucky they cant ask for all your credits in this game and even if they did, that you could respawn when you refuse. In real life that would not happen and admin in RL dont talk to you till your out of the game for good.(god if you believe in it/him)
Just be glad they cant board your ships too. If they could then a pirate would steal your ship right off you player account and add it to his own. All money, Cargo, and the ship while you (RP wise) are sold as a slave, dog food, or spaced.
//Hehe I'm installing 4.84 again, i'll be watching for you traders! "I am hungry for your blood, i will board your ship, shoot your first mate, and make your crew walk the plank untill you give me the launching codes for your ship, and then I will cut your limbs untill you give me all the money from your banking accounts!"
That i believe is how a pirate would act. There are many infocards that state "If we Corsairs need something, we take it..."

This is an old problem that's been going on for years.
Basically if you want somthing done about it go an consult the Rheinland authoritites to see if they can/want to do anything about it, after all it is a border system to their Capitol system.
Or the kusari if the aspect of RM/RFP vs BD isnt really what they want.
But in the end it aint gonna stop till one of the authorities steps up to sorting it out.
Pirates are screaming oorp because traders dont stop to "RP" with them...
At the same time the traders would be oorp BY stopping to "RP" with them...
Pirates expect RP "chat" from traders, when it would be OORP for the trader to give a flying crap about the pirate, thier family, or thier stories.... When trading. Time = Money. Stopping to "chat" costs time and money. Traders want to lose neither and only stop to pay, so they can be on thier way, not to chat it up like old buddies that havent seen eachother in a long time....
Except a trader with no escort is already either OORP or suicidal. Especially if they dont have countermeasures. The admins (hoodlum anyway) already said its OK to tax multiple times and theyve obviously done the run before so they KNOW what they are getting into.
I am however, quite sure that some people are role playing this out, and it kind of gets me that people say that actions are OORP. Thats pretty silly to me. There are variables.
Quote:Secondly, the diamond/niobium run is not oorp in any way, taking the "shortcut" is oorp for corporations, not indy traders who have "found" it on thier own and have accepted the risk by taking that route....
Its not OORP if you have made the run before and only been taxed slightly. You have a good chance of only losing a couple mil if that.
It is OORP if there are 7 pirates waiting at the jump hole and you are in a ship with weak defenses, and you see them and continue through unescorted. You have a very high probability of losing all cargo, ship, and life.
You could easily be in a RP situation where you are working for a corporation and jumping through the hole. Preserving the continuity of the SP mode is not always RP. let me repeat that:
Preserving the continuity of the SP mode is not always RP.
Some things are written in stone. Corsairs and Outcasts will battle it out till the bloody end. Cardimine will always be contraband. However, this does not mean that you have to RP directly based on SP/Vanilla. If we tried it would be misery. Ships would never leave their ZOI. There would be no trade as no ship actually follows the whole trade route. There would be no smuggling. You could only ask for cargo, not cash. Figthers would drop ammo.
Meh. I am sick and tired of people trying to tell me its OORP or its a power trader run. Its the most profitable run in the least amount of time. I don't care what they do to try and fix this. What ever route is next discovered to be the same status of "Most profit for least travel time" will have everyone on it. Soon after it will be called a Power trader run.(you can even quote me on it. :rtfm:)
As for anyone saying that lawful traders don't take JHs... How much crack did you smoke before you got on to comment? That is like saying that truckers never travel on ice roads across lakes cause its 4 days shorter then shipping it by boat around the icebergs (which is almost 3 times as expensive).. Nope. Trust me drivers AND shipping captains try their luck all the time.
Now onto this whole pirate issue. A nice little analogy for you people might help you understand that no matter what the most populated runs for traders will always have pirates in increasing numbers:
Think of the Diamonds as one grazing ground and the Niobium as another. (animals move the food in their belly don't think too hard or you might lose your lunch ANYHOO)
When the animals are at their grazing grounds they are well protected by the open plains and the ability to run as a pack.
But when they begin to travel to the next grazing ground (heading from one commodity location to the other) they break up making them much easier targets.
So the lions, tigers, and hyenas all come out to make a run for a meal. (yep you who didn't hire mercs to cover you or stick with a pack.)
Some herds and individual creatures make it. But not always and its good eats for the predators when they don't. (you get caught and taxed. At worst your enjoying your escape pod ride back to station or home.)
/end analogy
If you ever watch nature channels and movement of elephant herds.. NO Predator EVER attacks the whole herd.. They wait for one of the herd to break off.. get lost something. Cause all African predators understand angry bull elephants in packs are DANGEROUS. Alone them be easy pray for hunting packs. (never figured it out but traders always seem to want to run solo on this run. even though I have yet to see a pirate in a bomber try to take on 5 transports in a group. And a GB is just too dang big of a target)
I am done with the whining from the traders, Done with the whining from the peeps about it being OORP. It was never OORP for those who were RPing it to begin with. If your having an issue with a pirate; put a bounty on him or hire a few mercs to take care of the problem. (And I believe unlawfuls placing bounties on traders which are then collected by any BHG is OORP. The BHG wouldn't have any means of collecting the bounty lawfully. Or even justifying the attack. HOWEVER, mercs CAN take the job. Never mistake bounties for a lawful only activity. Unlawful bounties happen all the time.)
/end late night post.. falling asleep on keyboard leave many strange marks on face...heh
The whole thing is silly. Most traders run it to make $ to support their other characters, true enough. It's usually open, I logged on last night to check my characters and did one half the run, no pirates and probably 5 or more trains and whales chugging it out. When a pirate logs on generally the traders log off. That's what the whole thing is about.
The people who don't like it are generally the same people who don't like caps, because this run buys most caps in the game. It's not about RP or pirating for the most part.
You are not going to wave any magic wand and fix the trader who is just trading to buy that cap, or the pirate who is just trying to discourage that, because neither one approached it with RP in mind.
You want it fixed then make everything cost $1 so that the only people trading are those that want to RP traders, and the only people pirating them are those that want to RP pirates.
