Scimatar: my sources were incorrect for some reason, I'll fix that.
Teaboy: I was expecting this from you.
Incorrect jumphole infocards: unfortunately, quite possible. FLExplorer cannot be trusted about infocards. I made everything manually, except for jump hole names that would take eternity to set up manually. But FLE proved untrustworthy once again. Well, guess I'll have to do more checks.
Yes, the galaxy is expanding, but not by 282 systems in a week, and not all the systems would cover the map like that. its ridiculous. there should be a max of 5-6 new systems, which server a proper purpose. These systems should be discovery based, and if modders want to add a new system, they only have to edit one of these new ones.
I don't know how Igiss feels about that, but I think that's really jerkish of you. :nono:
lol.. Like Dab explained, it puts stuff out there for us to colonize!!! Also it saves CRAPLOADS of time in the future when it comes to adding new systems as they already have their links ect. Balance is already pre-planned so adding new systems in the future won't cause delays on version releases. Be thankfull Igiss thought ahead, I sure as the hell am!
@Suicidal: Yeah I always thought the Hammerhead was a touch underarmed for a VHF. Like you cannot use codeds or Nomad guns, which kinda sux. But then again it sacrifices power for manueverability. Otherwise I love the HH, its the coolest looking ship in the fleet IMHO. I used to go after Nomads in vanilla FL in a HH, loaded with awesome GMG laser guns.
So if we go with your idea we'd have to drop the turning circle from 77 to 60, like Titan and Sabre, for balance. Either that or compromise, say up two C.9 guns mounts to C.10, and maybe +1000 armor.
EDIT: sorry hijacking thread here.... O and Teaboy, I know the new configuration clutters up the galaxy map now. Datastorm looks atrocious. But just accept it
I'm totally reserving judgement on the systems, this is a beta release for a reason and the purpose of the 282 systems hasn't actually been fully explained to us yet. For all we know this is simply a template for expansions giving modders, as DO and Dab have said, a lot less work to do when adding new systems into the Discovery universe. The currently un-used systems might be hidden once 4.81 final rolls around, I don't know, it's too early to start throwing your weight around.
Number of systems is not important. Concept behind all those new systems is rather simple.
Populated systems are explored, allright. But what is in between of them? Empty space? Logically there are more stars and more systems, unexplored and lacking any population or viable resources.
Moreover, did you note where clan systems are located? Most of them are connected to 2 systems: one 'home' system of original faction, second empty system that is not connected to any other populated ones. There's one obvious way into each of those systems, and one hidden way that takes much longer, but may catch system defenders unprepared.
Next. About player-generated content. This applies both to clan systems and any other systems that you may like to edit. There will be special procedure about system submission that I'll post later, along with brief instructions on how to edit systems reliably in FL Explorer. Anyone who's enough careful and attentive will be able to 'populate' those systems. And I will add certain objects there too, surely.
Hiding systems? Well, many paths are hidden quite well as they are now, and I see no reason to restrict access for players. Besides, restricting isn't that easy.
Well, it would take a very long time to fully explore each one. Which is good I suppose, but there is a problem after all.
Something I've noticed about 'alot of alot' is that it tends to get repetitive. The hard part, I think, is not populating 282 systems but making each and everyone unique and interesting.
After all, we've all seen planets, stars, nebula, neutron stars, asteroids and whatnon in countless different ways in the current systems; and multitudes upon multitudes of scenes, some beautiful and others horrifying, but all the less, different.
Personally, seeing the nav map made me shudder, it looked ordered in the way it was done BUT the connections are complicated. As long as they for the most part, remain hidden and you'd actually have to do that thing called search to find them, sure.
Alot of people like exploring, and I do too, I like finding out the secrets of the universe that few others know, and hopefully these systems will be mysetrys as well as strange and different. And doing that for 282 systems is quite the feat.
Past experience has disapointed me with things like this, so I hope that the modders put true and tried effort into each system; which no doubt they will do (or suffer the wrath of many).
As of now though, yeah, they're pointless systems, empty. Lifeless. My opinion is also that they should be closed off until they are populated. Hidden. Once they are done, then they can be discovered, or in batches. This is a bit more realistic rather than finding 282 systems - all with nothing and suddenly having something? I suppose its for that RP feel that new systems are 'discovered', with everything in them that should be and will be.
Whoh! Another long post, I'm gonna have to remember to tone it down a bit. ;)

well manueverability isn't a problem, as i am ok in the sabre and titan. but to keep the mod diverse why not do what you suggested, and do the 2 C.10 mounts and 1000 armour.
