1; spawning ground for new players, enough said. that creates chaos and trouble on alot of levels, but it can be dealt with, the other issues that ping-pong effects with it is....
2; there is no set way of dealing with it. Everyone has an RP style, and sadly some people have a certain strictness in situations where a more lax approach would have been better. On the other hand, some people are too hesitant to lay down the hammer, though thats rarer by far.
And of course, some n00bs just add to the chaos by bending/breaking rules which makes it harder to resolve legitimate sticky RP situations.
Point being, Yes an LSF ID might be wiser for a liner bringing prisoners to Fairbanks...
BUT
You can also argue that the police ID is better RP because the police handle the most prisoners, if not *all* prisoners except POWs and court martialed Naval/LSF officers.
AND again
You could argue that the LPI liner should be granted Z21 access and then have to transfer the prisoners to an LSF barge for a fee, which would take them to Fairbanks.
There are many different ways to do it, all justifiable, and I can also think of justifiable reasons for killing the liner in each case. The key is to loosen up, maybe even have a moment of OOC PM communication to find out what the persons real intentions and RP background are.
Case in point; I RPed as part of a prisoner ferry route with the Consequence, under the auspices of a Naval carrier and several LSF agents.
While I of course had no clearance beyond Z21, as merely a police escort, the other officers of the navy and LSF had no issues with an LPI liner visiting Fairbanks.
There is such a thing a special dispensation.
In the end, both sides have justifiable reasons for frustration.
Im tempted to side with the liner though, its a gosh-darn prison ship for heavens sakes. shooting a prison ship is like a war crime. and as its been noted, RP over PvP, Eeeeeeespecially where supposedly allied lawful forces are concerned.
What happened here reminds me of pirate turf wars. no offence.
So in the end, it was just a run of rum luck, best just learn from it and figure something out.
Perhaps similar to a Nomad liscense, non LSF and certain Naval vessels should have to have a registration for entry into Z21, and any lawful unregistered ship found there is not to be shot down on sight, but taken into custody if possible. *shrugs* but thats just my two credits worth.
Well, think about it. An armored carrier carrying prisoners en route to a Navy base. What do you think happens there?
"En route to the prison bunker, sirs."
"Hm, this is a restricted area!"
"Uh, yeah, I'm delivering prisoners per request of the Navy."
"Drop 'em and leave!"
"What the hell? I'm supposed to put them on the prison station! I've got loads of them, you can't carry them all in your buggy. Your bosses are gonna' here about this!"
So I gave a think last night and decided the following:
I left last time for the exact same reasons.... = Phail.
I have an extremely heavy stress-load in RL and come here to relax... Some of the crap here should not affect me, but it does = Phail.
I really enjoy this 24/7 on-tap fun community = WIN!
The ability to escape RL pressures for brief moments = WIN!
Unfortunately coming to play when already stressed = Russian Roulette.
Conclusion:
Off to test out some new SP games for a bit.
I'll pop in again when I have killed the fires in RL.
It may be that I get 'too close' to the interaction - it affects you outside of the game too which is a WIN if it puts you in a good place and an EPIC phail if it frustrates you.
i would just like to come to the defense of the LN here.
The players who have [LN] tagged names are more often then not very good RPers. I only officially RP with the LN, and i love it, even when i get shot down. I try as hard as i can to set an example for the rest of the players in NY and Liberty in general.
What i think alot of people forget is that the [LN] are usually the first RP that new players see, and the vast majority of the [LN] driven RP events are good ones. The downside to Liberty's location is that alot of new players (or ones who just dont give enough crap to want to read the rules and be active RPers) want to be like the [LN], LSF, and LPI. They want to be cool and catch bad guys and blow up stuff legally. This leads them to the belief that the LN is a pvp-license, when it is not.
I have found SOO many instances where independant navymen and women "screw it up" because they either a)dont know how to RP a lawful, or b) arent in communication with an LN member.
I am in the process of creating a guide for indies and for new [LN] members that may assist with encouraging RP.
And i have had some of my best RP experiences with the LPCS-Consequence and with Eddie, but sometimes you come on right in the middle of a big RP event and expect us to switch to you right then and there. And unfortunatly, that means sometimes you will get the wrong end of the stick.
As Eddie probably knows, the only reason to go into NY is to smuggle Cardi/Artifacts. Other than that, yes there area a few that can RP but the overwhelming amount of people that cant leaves me to believe that NY is an RP Black Hole. Thankfully in 4.85 all the newbs will spawn in a new system, Pennsylvania I think? Hopefully that will end a lot of the problems.
