Why would anyone want to be a Xeno anyway?

Being a Xeno means that you have plenty of enemies and no other faction as a friend.

Added to this there is the geographical restriction, the restriction on not being able to pirate, the restriction of no transports (=no money), the restriction on no cap ships not even gunboats, the lack of powerful friends and the lack of ANY shield busting weapons, the list goes on and on.

My guess is most of us who have a Xeno character have chosen to be Xenos because of a desire to be non-conformist in one way or another. Therefore there is no desire for a military style set of ranks, with the associated duty to follow orders.

So is a faction needed? Possibly not. However a faction gives you a sense of belonging to something. Xenos have a lonely path to lead. Maybe some identifiable friends might be a good thing. One thing for certain is that it is no army. Any Xeno faction would rightly will be a weak faction.

Also it need to be role-played with some sensitivity. The location of any Xeno faction means it would need to deal with relatively new characters (levels 30 45) that may be new to Discovery. Becoming a true terror just outside the doors of NY would potentially be very damaging. However a faction of Xenos might be better equipped to do this RP correctly rather than a group of individual terrorists.

So I am asking whether the community thinks a Xeno faction would be a good thing.

If done flawlessly, I think it could be a good idea. Be a very, very tough faction to get a decent membership for. I mean, I personally have a Xeno character, but there are very few of us (I think). You have already named the reasons why.

Anyone starting it though, would need to understand that it would be under scrutiny from the very begining, and any RP or rule slip-up would probably be dealt with post haste. Just know, that a Xeno faction has more limitations and stringent rules than ANY of the other NPC factions.

It being tough makes it interesting... I think anyone wanting to "beat-up" on other players would be better served with another bigger, bettewr equiped faction. Xenos are likely to have fewer numbers, worse ships and worse weapons.

I think the RP would have to be largely guerrilla tactics. Which would mean they have to be very careful not to breach re-engagement rules.

See Kress and the very annoying tactics of the Worker's Front.

One thing though is that the PvP rules are really bad for RPing hit and run. You can hit... run... but not hit again basically.

Exactly.

There are even some on here that say if you get chased you can't even defend yourself... just carry on and on running until you dock... and then never leave that station unless it is to die.

So maybe a Xeno faction cannot RP with the rules as they are.

This thread is a honest attempt to gauge opinion. If it is deemed untenable then that is OK.

And Workers Front do not aim to hit the same target after retreating from it. If you see any member doing so, you could send me a PM with your concerns in it. Not the best place to flame the Unioners eh?

I think you have missed the point... I think he was using you as an example of good practice.
Certainly I didn't read it as a flame.

I know few people who have xeno chars, and all of them are good RP players, but what xenos makes special is restrictions you are talking about, there is no other faction who has that kind unique relationship with other Sirius.

And mostly people who fly xeno char are in one faction, maybe more, couse i see lot of multiclaning here, so i fly xeno for fun and thrill being chased in VHF by whole fleet and then survive or eventually kill someone

I think if someone could make good RP story for faciton of xenos is Doom and Yngen

not here
