yes, - i am still thinking about a nice junker specific ship design. - haven t given up yet.... .
now, this one is basicly a CSV and a big gun. - the junkers haven t got a bomber or a specific fighter with the needed "punch". ....
now.. my concept ( as an idea about a fighter ) was that they will not use a classic bomber, but come up with something special, as they are pretty special when it comes to ships. - so, its a CSV and a big gun ( gunboat fore gun )
the effect might be a ship with a build in narrow arc minirazor like gun ( don t think its really unbalancing ) that is more efficient than most other heavy guns available to the fighter class, but cannot match the power of the supernova. - but its not meant to be a bomber, but a fighter.
so the idea is something like:
- SHF stats of like 30.000 armour
- lvl10 fighter shield
- 1lvl7 hardpoint for one gunboat foreward gun // 2 lvl10 fighter weapon guns ( or rather 2 lvl7 freighter turrets )
- energy should be enough to fire the foreward gun and is left with like 20% energy afterwards )
- agility equal to the kiith somtaav
- size should be smaller though ( rather only slightly bigger than a CSV 2 collector )
- 290 cargospace, cause junkers simply need cargo ( but not enough to mount capital ship armour, except 8, but who would want to do that - as a junker )
so, thats my IDEA about it.
ps.: textures are just random, i didn t have the time to convert the appropriate FL textures....
well, its mostly about the idea of mounting something like a GB fore gun on a SHF as such. - in terms of if its balanced or not. - i lack the whole overview and capabilities of such guns. ( i don t use them, cause i don t have a gunboat ) - don t know if they are better, worse or whatever than minirazors or supernovas )
i think there are "plans" to give SHFs low freighter shields anyway - like 24k - but don t quote me on that. - i was flying a kiith somtaav for some time - and the 350 bats / bots made up for the low shield - it can "heal" like 10 times....
edit: and i had problems keeping a junker feeling with my other concepts... so that one is blocky, crude, simple...
Nice classical Junker line design. If only the CSV and Collector could have the same glowing cockpit !
I suppose that the lower part is for mounting the gun. As it is gunboat foreward gun, it needs an adjustement to fit on this specific ship, neh ? The lower circle is a bit too large, i dunno maybe because the random textures with a wood effect instead of rusty metal.
For the concept, this ship would make an ideal duo with the Collector. Definetly the kind of ship for multi-purpose and still weak against a good VHF pilot who can avoid the devastating forward gun. One 360 turret class5 could be nice. Junkers always need one for their shooting rocks training session.
Oh and...a ship for Junker --> a ship for Xenos to keep it fair

very good Jinx, though I personally prefer your previous fighter. this one' conmcept is very nice, but the barrel looks like a wooden barrel, see what I mean, and the texture just makes it look more like its made of wood..
yea - i see the barrel ... maybe i can remove some of the panels and only use like 8 or 6 of them. - but the other question is ... would it be OK - if a SHF had the option to mount a gunboat foreward cannon? ( instead of having a torp slot )
If the torp slot were removed it would be dead handy to have one of those "CD only" slots slapped on somewhere in kind, as it would be a real burden in life to go on without a disruptor!
A further thought on the "gunboat" forward cannon is that one would need to be manufactured for this specific ship, despite the fact that they do minimal damage in relation to the energy uses (especially in comparison to the snova), them guns suck up a -lot- of juice to prevent folk from slapping them onto their bombers/fighters and whatnot. So adjusting this vessel to be able to handle one would be granting it one heck of a powerplant! Granted that's rather a trademark of a SHF, but the ability to unleash a full rack of krakens without pausing for breath is a might intimidating, as opposed to say, the Spatial having the powerplant to drop a supernova and then pausing for breath/unleashing in full rack of krakens for a space of a minute.
All that being said, I'm a huge fan of the idea of SHFs coming with a boom stick for punching larger than average holes in the hulls of sluggish trade ships and... Well anything sluggish really!
As to the design itself, honestly the glowing cockpit is a winner in itself, what's not to love there? The overall design is obviously junky, given the classic CSV lines and whatnot, but I reckon that it -might- be coming up a little shy on one note of worth, the utility aspect. Also better known as the random claw/saw/bucket/whatever sticking out of the design somewhere that gives the vessel that "hey! Lookit me! Sure I've got guns and I might pirate you but I can also do things in debris fields" look that gives the Junker line their bit 'o personality.
I suppose any other facets of the design, barrel and whatnot, will come up with other critics!
*chuckles* I think my favorite things about these threads are your earnest apologies for the textures being place holders, I'm a larger fan of your placeholder textures than half of those currently in the game!
You can texture this ship with original FL textures and it will look almost the same...it is only matter of applying them correctly and few tricks in the mat file...
as for this ship i can say in immortal words of Jean Luc Picard...
