Excellent hardware you got there Korrd. The only thing decent about my computer is the screen.
FL crashes for no reason somtimes, freezes and mashes the textures into pixels, then makes a "critical system error". It really IS critical because Ctrl+Alt+Del doesnt work cause my computer has hung.
You should really turn that stuff off (my computer is about 10x slower than it already is with stuff like that on).
i wish i had hardware like that.......ahh well, time to pressure my parents   .
Anyway, for me, lag was constant but low. lots of ppl were on (20+), missions did make it lag more if they were kill ships. I did assasination, prisoner and kill bases without any lag.
Well, server is back on line on its original machine.
Phase 2 of the testing begins now. Bandwidth and ping on the original server.
So far, we might need to save for a more powerful server. Something along the lines of an A64 3500. A Pentium D 805 overclocked to 3.6 Ghz. (the PD 805 is slow on stock speed, but quite cheap. And can OC a lot), would be cheap and quite fast for the server. I think that processor is the cheapest Dual core money can buy, and overclocks a lot with stock cooling, so we can get a good bang for the buck.
Heh, my hardware is pretty old compared to modern standards. But it handles pretty well. Not going to change machine any time soon.
And no, all that stuff on the tray are does not affects performance, because most programs there are passive.

The static objects, like systems, planets, bases, and that kind of stuff does not affect lag.
What affect lag are the moving objects, and the IA. The IA is calculated on the server, so everybody sees the NPC doing the same. The moving objects are calculated on the server too. That is what I can see through the game behavior, and is the most logical course of action to take. If IA were calculated client side, then two players in the same place would see NPC doing different things. Take as example the starcraft game recordings. Every time you play a recorded game, it ends different. Because it only saves seed info, and leaves the IA to do the rest.

I was just online, I had red lag, in edinburough by 31 hole. Huntin BH's. I was chasin 3 of them when I froze up and when I hit another button I got this quick flash of a message. Sorry I didn't catch what it said, too quick. It then crashed FL and came up with Microsoft error reporting. dunno what happened.
