Pirates seem to stick to Gunships mainly. At least the ones I've encountered. What is something good to counteract them? Can fighters handle gun ships? If I wanted to hunt pirates, they all have gunships, what can I do to get them? Clearly they have more firepower when it comes down to it.

In mostly all cases, 2 vipers with razors can take any gunboat.

I remember a time when Berkut and I took down a cap VIII OC GB.. Hehe good times

I would either go after them with a nice big bomber or another gunboat.

I was formerly know as Spiritar.

Get a friend, and grab a fighter or bomber. Any combination of the above can win a fight vs. a gunboat.

Absolutely, two Fighters can pull it off with patience, skill and co-ordination.
The ship that is currently being targeted by the gunboat should say to the other(s) that he/she is the target by using some predesignated command are even simply "t" that indicates that the speaker is the current target.
The targeted ship should spend his time concentrating on dodging to keep shields up, if the targeted player is good enough he/she have plenty of opportunities to get some shots in without doing a head-on joust.
While the gunboat is busy with the dodger the other(s) can fire at their leisure, if they are good enough they will know which face of the gunboat has the least amount of turrets covering it (not spoiling that info, sorry) and will keep themselves in that area of the gunboat as they fire away. Keeping on the gunboats weakest face is beneficial because the pilot might switch targets and that new target will take a few hits.
Once this new target is chosen the pilot should then use group chat to indicate that he/she is now the target.
Be patient and keep this cycle up and your group of Fighters should do fine.
oh yeah and practice, practice, practice.

Hahaha, Quite simple, get a gunboat... You have to understand a gunboat is designed to kill fighters.... so unless you have a friend like others suggested... you are in trouble...

Even with 2 bombers its hard to kill gunboat, [ ofcourse there are many new players, with 0 skill so you might get lucky ] so fighters vs gunboat i would say mission almost impossible.

Yeah, uh, he's right. Razors do one bar of damage to a gunboat, and it regens quickly. Unless one has all shieldbusters and the other all Archangels, there's no chance.

Depend on your and his setup and your and his skill.

Skilled gunboat can hande bunch of fighters (VHFs) without any problem. Even pair of bombers isnt big tragedy if they arent perfectly cooperating.

Disco is designed for skill, right question isnt if your ship can own gunboat but if YOU can.
