Shield running. I hate that. Makes the battle endless. (If not, ask Kane. When we pursued the CUFF fleet with my Phantom Sabre and Reaver's gunboat they shieldrun, run, etc... Pursue took two hours. We managed to kill two out of four of them, but took a long time as they would run when shields were dented).

With bots and batts i have no problem. They are there for a reason, and that reason is not to ignore them.

Personally, I have no problem with either tactic.

The shield running is a useful tactic for breaking up a larger enemy force, or for finding a more favorable environment(for example gas pockets or asteroid fields).

The idea of using cruise in repeated hit and run attacks doesn't make a great deal of sense. If a ship has little or no chance in an engagement, there isn't much point in repeated attacks, is there?
Of course, hit and run attacks are the main tactic used in Guerrila warfare, so it's a viable RP option.

Using cruise to escape? Where's the problem? The pursuing ships can easily break off the engagement if cruise disruptors don't work. I see no point in chasing someone halfway across Sirius.

Historically, most naval battles ended with one or both sides disengaging from combat with little or no damage to either side.
Once again, it seems to be a viable RP tactic.

Bats and bots? Both sides have them. I have trouble comprehending why people have a problem in using them.


In the last engagement I was involved in(SCRA vs RM), I used cruise to try to break up the enemy numbers a little for tactical advantage.
It was not about shield running. I didn't stay in cruise until my shields were fully charged.
Without thrusters and engaging a larger number of ships, being a sitting duck seemed like a poor tactical option.
Changing position enabled me to turn the tables a little, going from the hunted to the hunter. If cruise disruptors had been used against me, I would not have been able to fight out a draw.

After attaining tactical superiority, I attempted to disengage but was pursued.
I saw no point in continuing a fight where my objectives had been achieved.

If people want to slug it out until one side is dead, isn't Connecticut or a non-RP server the place to go?
I certainly won't be entertaining RM again after all the complaints.
Seems to be far fewer complaints when flying for SF and giving the pirates someone to shoot at and run from. :D

For me - and for many others, it appears - it depends on the situation. Bots and bats are okay as long as you don't use them in ships above bombers. When people fight with them in capital ships, it's not much fun to fight them, and the victor is decided upon by who has the most bots and bats.

As for shield running, its annoying, yes, but while I don't do it, it doesn't bother me all that much.

For me, though, I voted for bats and bots.

a tactic which didn't help you in spite the aid of five corsairs shooting at me too in the gas pockets... you still ran with 50% shields.

Escape then, don't turn back to engage. Unfortunately, the CDs don't work, what could we do? Let you go away? You said it yourself, it's an RP server. As I said, if you don't want to be chased/destroyed/fought back at least... mate, don't attack, don't taunt. And it was not RP. You told me you 'just wanted to bug someone'.

I had an RP idea that I wanted to use. It's posted in the SCRA message dump.
Why do you think there was the "planetary bombardment"? The taunts? It was a distraction to draw in RM so the RP could be fleshed out a little.

Why do the SCRA need drugs from LD Inc?...what happened to the captured crew of the Procrastinator when it was badly damaged?

Not much point in having forum RP if there's nothing happening on the server to back it up is there? ;)

Anyway, doesn't matter now. Obviously my feeble attempt at RP was not wanted, so will not be repeated.

Edit: All the flying around in S13 was because someone wanted their NCC back...

In my not-so-humble opinion, if you cruise you retreat. Rather, if you cruise you should be considered as retreating.

Bots and bats... Oh boy. I remember a time when one didn't need to carry them around. Most often, people played by "Gentlemans Rules" of combat. No bots or bats, and no running. Now, it's impossible to go anywhere without carrying the things because -everybody- uses 'em. If you have none, you are dead fighting a ship your class or higher (Most often the case, it seems).

One other thing that I feel should be mentioned... Death.

Normally the three-death rule is a good one, but I feel it's a tad impractical. Especially for a RP server, it doesnt make a lot of sense. Instead I propose a new system.

1 Death: You were heavily damaged, and forced to withdraw. Repairs will take time.
2 Deaths: Your ship was disabled and sustained critical damage. Repairs are possible, but very costly and will take weeks, if not months.
3 Deaths: Your ship is utterly destroyed. It's a miracle you survived at all. Your ship must be re-built, because the current one is useful only as scrap.
4 and above: You are Dead. As in, your character died when the ship was reduced to component atoms.

One can come back again and again, but the penalties for each "respawn" become greater and greater each time. Or, alternately, we could go with the "You only have one life" model. You die, that's it. No more re-entering the current fight after that, due to your ship being re-built after it's destruction.

I like that, or at least limiting it to 1 death per pvp in the server rules, becuase tis kind of silly when a pirate has 3 chances to hit a transport before he HAS to call it off.

Your 'feeble attempt at RP' was and is wanted and welcomed, your methods aren't. Same for the fact that you still just wanted to annoy a guy in a fighter by using a cruiser. You wanted to mask it as RP... that's your problem. If I go pick on someone as an Outcast in my Sabre, that is because he/she is in a wrong place in a wrong time or doing a wrong thing (a sso| killing Outcasts in Alpha or a PMG mining in Tau-37, Outcasts wouldn't like that, would they?). Please do RP, but with a reason deeper than 'I wanna bug someone'. You'll enjoy it more.

If the run was because the NCC, why didn't you stop and give it back? Why didn't you drop it while we were chasing you? Why did you tractor it in the first place?

@Teaboy: thanx for the support mate, but that's what we don't need - the flamming. The thought is appreciated.

@all: Finally, I agree with Kane, more on the one death rule and good point on the 'gentleman's rules', not many people respect those anymore.
