Freighters are not transports and are not covered by the rule. This may change in the future.
It is very bad form to attack a freighter with a battleship but this is not against the rules.
Closing this thread so that people can see the answer easily.
So, now that I know that Freighters aren't covered by the BS rules, that raised another question in my mind. Since Freighters aren't transports, does it mean that everyone can engage them without making a demand?
Seems so, but it would be very bad. I think it could be stretched to that Admin rule where someone is breaking the good gaming feeling on the server if you were to do that, outside of RP.
However, there are some situations where incinerating a freighter (or a transport) with a battleship would be not just called for, but mandatory.
So, we have a nasty situation where fair play and role play are in collision with each other. I personally, vote for RP, as sometimes floating in an escape pod, or even dieing, is a part of Role Play, and in my oppinion, helps the immersion, even if killing someone's ego. And believe me, there are but a few more egothistical people around here than me.
Also, from those that can obliterate you, you can escape, most of the time. Gunboats, Cruisers, Transports, Battleships, are all slower than your freighter... and against fighters and bombers, a freighter can somewhat hold it's own.
And, once again, I have talked too much. My appologies to those offended.

They still need to roleplay the engagement, you know..

Are you stating that transports shouldn't be able to attack freighters? You do realize that most of the freighters out there can beat the crap out of most transports (which won't be able to defend themselves anyway).

In my views, the rule states that TRADERS cannot be the target of capital ship aggression... and so on a so forth.
I figure that TRADERS doesn't only include Transports but also freighters and other civilian craft that are trading.
However, I can understand how it could only apply to transports, as freighters tend to have the ability to dodge incoming capital ship fire, while transports lack that.
