What's the scariest game you ever played?

Alien versus Predator 2 (NOT primal hunt) .. the marine campaign ..

played that alone at home over nights .. made me feel like my heart is going to beat up a hole into my ribs.

I would say the old, good AvP... Or from the newer... FEAR and Bioshock... those have more atmosphere than people with weak hearts can handle.

Scariest game?

Quake, the original.

I'm not really into FPS games, but I got Quake because I wanted to see more of the graphics.

I then made a mistake and played it with headphones on. with the lights off.

Now I can't play games like that without my shoulders turning to stone after 10 minutes due to tension. :crazy:

It's not knowing what is around the next corner, while being able to hear what is around the next corner that freaks me out, I think. :lol:

Dead Space/Extraction (in the latter mainly because you actually care about the characters around you), FEAR 1 and 2, Silent Hill. Doom 3 and the Resident Evil series occasionally scared me, but in the "IN YER FAEC! SHOCK!" kind of way - sure, it's scary to have some strange creature jump straight into your face from around a corner, but because you are surprised and not because the atmosphere is really intense.

System Shock 2 was great too, although I have to admit that the graphics and lack of scripted sequences kinda prevented me from getting really immersed. I'm by no means a graphics freak, just when it comes to horror games I need some eye candy to feel truly scared:).
